I apologize for my off topic comment. The Mayan calendar has nothing to do with the current topic. I was just venting from a long stressful day.
Or Nostradamus? world ending in december of 2012 or something. still of topic but, eh, thought I'd put that out there.

Have you even been reading my posts? Go back and read what happened to Rubermaid... The name still exists, but the company is gone (Try to buy stock in the Rubbermaid company ) Rubbermaid was a business - now it's just a brand.

I agree completely. There's a reason I buy Honda/Acura vehicles. I goes against my argument, but for that big of an investment (and how long we drive the same car) it has to be rock-solid from the start. Of the countless Domestics I rent for work, the abuse of others accelerates the aging process. I wouldn't buy anything but maybe the previous-generation Malibu from GM. Everything else has fallen apart in some form or fashion. I wish it weren't true, but it is. Stats back it for those who doubt it.

Honestly, when the thread started, I didn't imagine this kind of response. "Another news item of interest" Turns out it runs deep, with many...

EDIT: Rubbermaid used to be headquartered in Wooster, Ohio. I would often drive past their HQ on the way to visit family near Akron, during college. Since then, lights out. We were proud of the local manufacturing giant, but now it has left Ohio. I guess I did too. The rust-belt continues...

I read it. It doesn't affect anything. Read what I wrote previously and get back to me. If you want the quality of goods and services you received in the 70's (crap!), then you will have to convince the rest of the country to adopt your policies.

I really don't get the 70's reference..... In any case, saying it doesn't affect anything doesn't make it true

Moved

I had to move this thread since it has gotten very personal and political.

Although I've contributed to the discussion, please remember this Site's purpose of improving fuel economy and related news.

In the 70's vehicles with funny names, like Toyota and Honda, started appearing in America. American manufacturers made big cars that were unreliable. They claimed that it was impossible to make cars that get 30 miles per gallon, and they said that cars with air bags would be so expensive that only the ultra-rich could afford them.

Since then something has changed with American manufacturers. Their cars are many more times reliable than those funny import cars that came in the 70's. In addition, most safety features implemented since then have been initiated by the auto makers themselves.

Something changed their attitude. What was it? Who benefited? Why?
