It's already happening for different reasons. Unemployed people don't commute.

I have seen cars parked that closely in downtown Guayaquil, 30 years ago. An enterprising individual was "in charge" of a particular stretch of curb. He would flag down drivers of cars he felt would fit in his domain, then would carefully push and pull his line of cars to make room for the new one. The driver had to leave the car out of gear and with the tires parallel to the curb. A moderate fee was requested. It worked because that part of the city is flat.

In the case of the Metro, it could have been boxed in after it parked.

My wife owned a Zastava 750 (re-engined Fiat 600) that could have parked like that, without assistance or drifting. It had a 3 gallon gas tank that she topped off once a week. It was a great little city car, though cramped for anyone over 5' 10". I have been told that, in Serbia, the solution for tall drivers is to take out the front seat and drive from the back bench.

Her first car was a Mini Cooper pick-up. Another great city car and a great configuration. Her little brother totaled it when he took a turn too fast and rolled.

I am digging the truck. The owner is ticking every box he can. I LOVE the faired in rear wheels, nobody else has been doing that and it's sooo obvious!

And a Volkswagen truck with some fairings

I see this Peugeot 504 very often

And this was the first split-window Kombi with sliding door that I've seen

The split-screen, sliding door combination shipped as an option in Europe pre-68, but this is Brazilian manufacture.

Other things to note:
  • 15-window body with 'fried-egg' turn signals
  • Safari pop-out windshield
  • Deluxe bumper trim on a Kombi body (no side trim)
The only wheels I've seen like those were 4 on 100mm instead of 5 on 205mm.

And it's a '75. The sliding door was an adaptation, as this option was never available for Brazilian splits.

The pop-out windshield is another adaptation. Anyway, I don't know why I still get surprised about your attention to the details when it comes to air-cooled VWs...

So I guess you'd like this black '98-'99 Kombi I spotted a few days ago in Florianópolis.
