I haven't done the board yet, but... hmm. It can be remarkably similar to the DC controller for the power section. Actually, the power section would be identical in every stinking way. ONLY switching is different. So.... I could get most of a bill of materials together, but I need to know the size of the new control/driver board, so I can figure out the size of the aluminum base plate.
I think there are 3 beta testers. Do you guys want to start with a certain amount of money, and then I order things, and if I need a little extra at the end, then I beg and plead for it? haha.
It will hopefully be a > 200kW inverter. But you will have to provide for the cooling. I don't have a cheap way to mill channels in that large of a base plate. It will cost similar to the DC controller, which, due to the setup fee of 4 layer boards, and getting things in small quantities, was probably in the ball park of $775. So, $850 would be a guess for this one, since the control/driver board will have 6 isolated supplies instead of 1.. I know that's a lot to pay for a prototype.

It's all Oprah's fault. Her and that awful Dr Phil.

So.. An ac motor controller must be an inverter-like contraption right? The ac has to be coming from somewhere? For solar powering my new house I will need an inverter (among other things.) How much of this ac motor controller design is swipe-able for use in an open revolt renewable energy power system I wonder?

You can use an inverter for a car as an inverter on your house. You just need to filter the 3 sine waves. Well, thats if you want 3 phase power. Just a software modification will turn it into split phase 240vac that all houses have.

Kusaw, thingstodo, will $850 work for you guys? I might be able to do it for less, but it always ends up costing more than I think. For example 3 current sensors (one per phase for hardware oc protection and torque control) plus shipping is close to $100.

$850 for a 3 phase, >200kW controller kit? That sounds VERY reasonable. I can add a bunch of chill plate and get it milled locally.
I had read the posting about the $850 estimate ... and somehow didn't realize that I am one of the beta testers you were talking to ...
.. senior moment there ... and along those lines I am having trouble finding your email account for paypal ...
I'll round up to $900 as a guess on extra shipping (I am in Canada)
NOW all I need to do is to find a motor that will take that much power, and that will FIT into the WIKISPEED car. I'm sure I'll come up with something.

This sounds a bit big for a firmware only change!
A Split-phase 240VAC portable (as in truck) supply that can run my shop tools locally at another EV that is broken ... or charge up an EV really quickly .. or run a 3 phase welder (that I can pick up cheap surplus) anywhere ... sounds great ... next year ... since there is only so much time!
