...EUREKA -- a "minor" success (of sorts)!
...hit 45.1 mpg driving home this afternoon (~5:00pm), the highest mpg I've registered so far!
...but, after traffic & train, had to settle for a "final" 43.1 mpg value...nevertheless, it was *way* above my original goal of 36-38 mpg!
...hopefully, I can repeat (or better) that number tomorrow!
Addendum: no luck today, only 40.8 mpg @ 79°F. So, I'm thinking yesterday's number was WIND-enhanced.

Now that the temperatures have climbed to above freezing rust is creeping in again. After not driving for a week, yesterday I went to pick up the Wife. I'm driving along when I get to a light that can't be timed (MRT - "Maliciously Random Timing" I call it). When I applied the brakes I heard the usual scraping sound of rust getting polished off the discs. Then I realized I was 8km from home. I drove 8km without using my brakes even once! Just timing, coasting and engine braking were enough until then, though I admit that luck with lights/traffic/other drivers had a lot to do with it.

I had a pretty good day yesterday. I did 30 miles made up of 5 shorter trips throughout the day. It was primarily in town with maybe 4 miles of that rural road and a mile or so of gravel. Temp was 40-45F. Avg. was 28mpg for the day which beats the new highway est. of 26.

Back in the year of 1989, I rode a bicycle from Rock Hill SC all the way to Vernal UT. 2100 miles in 31 days. I figure I consumed about 4000 calories per day. Potato chips, beanie weenies, milk shakes, peanuts, anything that provided calories. And meals from roadside reataurants. Calories. Anything.
And I have to reckon that I produced a huge amount of methane in those 31 days, perhaps not as much as the cows on the planet do, but I added my share.
So, did I harm the enviroment by burning no petro-chemical substances for a month? I moved myself most of the way across the continent with only muscle power, but it really concerns me now that I may have harmed the enviroment in the process, even worse than driving a car. I feel really guilty...

I think that probably did harm our environment sir. Maybe containment would be a good option here so as to use the methane as a type of fuel. I have had an idea about this for some time now, maybe we could put our collective heads together?

100th fill-up in my 2008 Civic EX 5-speed: 46.11mpg
I availed myself of Ecomodder's Garage to log the fill-ups of my 2008 Civic EX (manual transmission) called "CuteNiceButNotTheSame".
On its 100th fill-up: 46.11mpg.
The little beastie has had a few 45+mpg fill-ups over the past few weeks. But usually it's in the low 40's, which isn't bad. This fill-up may have been helped by recent maintenance service (including an oil change).
No mods...Just the usual modding of the driver when bludgeoned with the stark reality of a ScanGaugeII. Plus the summer weather helps. It seems to be doing slightly better on gas this summer than last. Maybe it's finally broken in after 40,000 miles? :-)

I drove the second longest distance on a tank -- 560.1 miles! The fillup was ~11.2 gallons, so just under 50mpg, nowhere near the best mileage.

I've driven to work without braking - first brake application in the parking lot to stop the car - that's 50km / 31 miles.
I wonder how long the brake pads are going to last

It's not the brake pads you should be worried about, it's the discs:
Hypermiling ruined my brakes!
