This sure looks a lot like my tail! Do you think it would have been beneficial to have a flat top where the flow could reattach or is the flow already attached down the rear window?

Guess who helped inspire this!

Flow over the rear window is attached, believe it or not.

I'm going to have to do some more tuft testing to see if I should extend the rear skirts lower and integrate them into the boat tail. Gut says yes, but maybe it's turbulent enough already to not matter much.

Good to know I'm inspiring others to start building. Maybe next year we can all get together like some others did this year

It's very surprising that you have attached flow! Should make for a pretty good boat tail then

It looks good so far. You might want to put some zip-ties on the taillight wires.

Gonna clip those wires up once I get them working right.

WS, what would you do differently in this situation? I know there was some talk of taking the tail off the rear window instead of the trunk lid, but how much would that improve it?

I came down with a cold so no work today. Trying to get my mom to pick up more M6 bolts, nuts and washers on errands but she's really stubborn (like me).

Howsabout a meet in Wisconsin Dells next year!!! There are a few parks nearby that probably have camp sites.

All goes to plan (Sven, I've mentioned that to you) over the next year, and I'm definitely down for a Dells meet. Not sure what vehicle I'll be driving, but it sounds like a good time!

Really enjoyed reading this thread Tyler. I was hoping to see the Probe around DET, but I see that you are back in MN. Good luck getting some tail!

I think you are on the right track, if that video showed attached flow over the back window I would do exactly what you are doing. the effort to make it taller and still have a window is not worth it.

So keep up the good work and see what gains you get with it the way it is.

For a comparison to tuft testing, how did powdery snow stack on the rear window? did it slide off or pile up? In the winter I like to see where the snow fills in on my tail, its a good sign of a low spot or detached flow. it can be like a self correcting shape in a wind tunnel
