Found some info on the CRX HF vs. Insight CV's
CRX HF
OAL (COMP.LENGTH): 35 11/16 +/-0.125
INNER SPLINE COUNT: 25
OUTER SPLINE COUNT: 23
OUTER SEAL DIAMETER: 1.931 +/-0.001
OUTER THREAD PITCH: M22X1.5
Insight
OAL (COMP.LENGTH): 34 5/8 +/-0.125
INNER SPLINE COUNT: 25
OUTER SPLINE COUNT: 23
OUTER SEAL DIAMETER: 1.930 +/-0.001
OUTER THREAD PITCH: M22X1.5

I'd bet the HF hubs would work just fine, however this is just a comparison of the right side CV's. The CRX uses the same one on the right and left, I couldn't get any info on the left side CV for the Insight???

There is only one D-series transaxle that uses equal length axles, and the HF isn't it.

The ZC transaxle comes with a separate half shaft that bolts to the block, which then requires the use of 2 short axles, instead of a short and a long. It's designed to control torque steer under hard acceleration. JDM only piece, though. The half shaft, or intermediate shaft, can be used with other D-series transaxles, but you'd have to tap the holes in the block that it bolts to.

It's also something you could look into for the Insight's transaxle, as well, which may allow you to use the shorter HF axle on both sides. (Then again, I think you wanted to use the Insight's twigs, right?)

I wouldn't know, the info I found shows the same part number for right and left sides for the HF...I'll look again to be sure.

Well, that's encouraging news...Back to scamming around for a local set of HF knuckles.

SVO- I don't think the CV joints can stand being stretched an inch on both sides, so you might want to make sure if the Insight's other shaft is 1" longer or close to it, so you can take up the slack of the long shaft by shifting the engine one way 1/2".

I agree. Somewhere I looked I found the total length to be something like 1/8th inch off from the CRX. I'll lay they axles out and measure in a bit. Working one figuring out how to jiggle the engine into place right now, but I keep doing stupid things...

Measure the compressed length, and compare it to the OAL. The result should be about 1/2 way in between, if you can set it up that way. You should never mount them any longer than the OAL, if possible.

Isn't the OAL the same as the compressed length?

It shouldn't be, because OAL is "Overall length" and they're not installed compressed. They're installed about 1/2 way between compressed and extended.
