Metro-

I have seen the videos, if that is the teal '93. It seems as if my lowered suspension and/or air dam help the car quite a bit. You can see that the tufts on my door are pretty stable. I don't know what the speed difference was, though.

Hopefully I'll be able to get more accurate data in the future

arcosine- That's pretty cool. Is there a thread here about it? Remember, though, that I don't have a VX. It's got a 1.6L non-VTEC!

FC- Well, either way, the wiper is off now. One nut is soaking in PB Blaster so I can get the motor out. Unfortunately it's not a lot of weight savings since its housing is necessary for shutting the hatch. VX's came without rear wipers, so I figure it'll be fine. I am trying to work on a permanent kammback which would, as you say, keep a lot of spray off of the window.

Been researching faired bicycles lately... someone stop me from building a recumbent HPV...

I'm really at a loss as to fender skirt mounting. I've looked at a few builds here and nothing seems like it would work right.

-It must be easily removable for switching wheels and racing
-It must not be held on by tape
-It must have decent enough fit and finish to not look slapped-together.

Ideas? Links?

I'll post some drawings when I get home.

Edit...

I've been thinking of mounting L-brackets inside the wheel lip, with threaded holes in the brackets. Then I could put the skirt up against them and screw it on from the outside. The main issue with this, in my mind, is that air may catch the leading edge of the skirt. It will also be difficult to continue the skirt surface rearward like this-

I was just talking about perhaps building the rear bumper and skirts into one big body panel and attaching it using hood pins, but that is very much involved. I may end up chopping the bumper up anyway, so who knows.

Yokohama's par Tyler Linner, on ipernity

Yokohama Avid Ascend, 185/55/R15 on 15x7 Chevy Cobalt steelies.

Got the orange oil LRR tires. After a cursory drive to a friend's house and back, they seem to roll well but also seem like a handful at the limit. We shall see.

(It's the first full set of new tires I've ever bought)

That's what I did. Jump to post #14:

I folded over the edge of the skirt, and made a few notches where the brackets are, so the wind doesn't see an exposed edge.

Thanks Darin, I may have previously missed that post about the brackets. It looks like a really slick way to do it... and I can just drill it right into the bondo on the top edges, lol. Time to buy some copper pipe... re-use the boat tail bolts...

Airflow or gravity. Rain-X works great with either.

Nice work! and a nice upgrade from the Probe IMO.

How do you feel about the rain-x wiper blades...do you think they actually do something? I am in the market for new blades.

Oh, god. I really want that. The body is toast, though. We'll see

(Rainx blades work ok but the real trick is using actual rainx on the windshield. the combo is fantastic)

No real updates at this point. The new tires aren't giving me the MPG I'd hoped for, but maybe they need to be worn in a bit.

Edit, you know, I could go out in Cali and get clean VX's all day... not for that kind of money, but they're much more plentiful. Hmmm. Time to save up, but for what? VX? Or a Miata, MR2, S2000 or Boxster? Do I want 50mpg or a RWD sports car? Tough decision.
