Thanks for posting that, whirledpeas. That seems to contradict what the two reviewers were saying about "tall gearing".
Mirage 1.2L gearing is just a little shorter in 5th, though the Mirage also wears 165/65R14's (haven't compared the circumference to the Fiesta...).

Mirage is at around 3700 RPM at 80 mph.

I'd wager the DCT is the same everywhere.
I was mighty disappointed that the EcoBoost DCT I drove still hovered around the 3k mark at 60 mph. You'd figure with that extra torque, they could give it a much taller sixth gear...

I'm not sure about the DCT, but I suspect the problem on the manual transmission is people would wear their clutch quick always slipping it to take off from stoplights.
That's one of the biggest complains I have with my 2011 Focus. You can't let out the clutch and go, it will stall. I don't like that.

The extra torque, plus the thing will automatically downshift if you load up the engine enough. Something which the marketers/engineers apparently assume a manual driver is incapable of doing (and thus ridiculous high-revving manual ratios, in general).

I'd be happy with a granny gear and a tall OD. But people would complain about a performance hit. You know, because a Ford Focus is a racecar!
3700 at 80MPH is really screaming!
My Focus is geared so that 90 is 3000RPM - 1500RPM at 45. I have never had it that fast.
With the taller tires, my cherokee is <2500RPM at 85. But it never goes above 60 (1700RPM)

I'm running 2800 rpm at 60, which would be 3750 at 80. It's not unique, sadly. But as you said, why would you need to go 80? I'd be happy with lower rpm. It's fine around town where most of my miles are.

My fiesta (at) shifts into 6th at just over 40 MPH and 1500 RPM. It will hold 6th better when temps are warm vs cold. I've just learned to anticipate that point and try to stay in 6th as much as practical. If I don't I have to P&G to keep my MPG up. Been filling at different stations lately, last tank just over 48 MPG. MPG over several previous tanks shows one at 45, the next about 48, I think it is fill discrepancies from not using the same pump at the same station, but it all averages out over time.
It will not hold any gear but first below 1500, shifts down to the next lower gear as you slow down. I can even feel it downshifting when I have it in "neutral" which I think is not neutral at all just clutch released.
regards
Mech

That said, the Ecoboost is happier holding sixth at 60-70 km/h (40-ish mph) than the 1.6 was. So that extra torque does help you when going for a record. But in terms of the average 70 mph or bust driver, it leaves something to be desired.
