What's the AUTOMOTIVE equivalent of "CTL-ALT-DEL" going to be?

PRAY-BRAKE-CRY?

The automotive reset currently is to disconnect the negative battery cable.
Yes I have read the Foundation series and my son is reading it now so we discuss it.
Yes there is a disconnect between traditional public education and socialism.

Some of you might want to read the Hugo winning short story "Exploration Team" by Murray Leinster. As for education policy we are in a fight over the Common Core mess. The objection is to education being used for political indoctrination. If it just doesn't work we will not keep trying to use it. Either we fix it or find something else that does work.

One reason I have never been involved in a serious accident is that I don't assume it can't happen. Some of us do look for softer places to land or reducing the angle of impact. I guard my safety space carefully. That may mean letting some one pass or flipping on the hazard flashers if some one is following too close. Allow 3 seconds for spacing. Technology will never wholly compensate for inadequate training.

The recent rash of commuter train accidents should remind us that even good systems are not perfect.

The recient rash of train accidents were all human caused and would have been prevented if the computer controlled devices already in place were activated. Same thing with the 777 crash at SFO. It took exerything those pilots had to override the computer and get that bad boy to crash.

What the hell are you talking about? You really don't have any clue do you.

Motion to move this crapfest to the lounge. It is political and has absolutely nothing to do with ecomodding.

I hope the car has adjustable eco modes, or I might have to have to mod it myself. This car holds to the speed limit well enough, but I wouldn’t call it eco driving.

The only reason it would be closed is because of your unfounded nastiness. Nothing I said is political, nothing has been anything like "you really don't have a clue do you."
I will say when people start throwing about nastiness it's because they no longer have anything productive to add. If so, no need to close the thread, all you have to do is stop reading it.

Just to document, you describe a "rash", what specifically do you mean?

How do you acertain that they were human controlled?

How do you acertain that there is a suitable robot to do the job?

How do you acertain that so and so fought the robot to kill people.

Folks who use peoples deaths to further their financial goals are beyond the scummiest of politicians.

You cannot prove anything you have asserted. You are a fearmonger, with a monetary interest.

That is textbook political scumbaggary.

I haven't talked about any fear of anything. You are the one talking about evil robots taking over the world. I just want a car that will drive me where I want to go without me doing it. I don't care if it's safer, that is just a nice byproduct. My "rash" of accidents comment was in response to the one directly above mine that said ,"The recent rash of commuter train accidents should remind us that even good systems are not perfect."
All of those train accidents were human error and would have been prevented by the new train speed control and auto stop devices. I ascertain they were human error because there was no other possibility. The CA one was deemed to be a texting engineer, and the Phili one was going over 100 mph into a 50 mph curve and although the positive train control was installed on that train it hadn't been turned on because they wanted to test it more. Had it been turned on, that would have been a good test, nothing worse could have happened for sure! My 777 comment was about the SFO crash were the plane was doing everything it could not to crash, but was overridden by the pilots. Robot would have landed the plane perfectly. Boeing builds the planes this way, that a pilot can do whatever they want, so maybe they didn't have to fight the robot, just keep silencing the alarms and pulling on the controls. An Airbus give more control to the computer but a pilot can still fight to do things outside normal parameters.

I have no monetary or political agenda in this. I'm an 11 year navy nuke veteran and now I deliver mail in Montana for the post office. I'm quite libertarian with conservative values. Father of 2, married to my wife for 26 years. Just a normal Joe, you may be the first person ever to call me a scumbag. I would think that reflects more on you then it does me but who knows.

I hope you anger turns around, the world is too beautiful to go about you life mad at mailmen from Montana who like automation. Like Yoda says, "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate.. to suffering."

Just wanted to say someone ran into the back of my car today because the cars in front come to a stop, and I had to stop very quickly, the guy behind me, didn't manage to stop until he hit me. The good news is I had my trailer hitch on my Prius (which I custom made upgrading/strengthing the aluminum bumper support) damaged his Civic but good, but did no damage at all to my car.

Anyway, as I was saying this is a very common accident, and can often be avoided with computer controls that would brake the car automatically at this kind of low speed.
