Nitrogen narcosis. Don't know precisely how one dies as a result of that. Do you die from the narcosis, or do you simply pass out until you run out of air?

I wonder if they make helium rebreathers, which might have resulted in a better outcome?

Dave succeeded in his mission to recover the body he went down there for, ironically. What work he did eventually caused the body to float up to a place that it could be recovered, but he left his own corpse in the place.

Highly recommend the documentary on Netflix called Last Breath. Makes me think I choose the wrong occupation. It still boggles my mind that there's no depth of water on earth the human body couldn't survive so long as they use oxygenated liquid to breath. Surprised nobody has attempted such a stunt.

Decompression sickness - Wikipedia
Decompression sickness (abbreviated DCS; also called divers' disease, the bends, aerobullosis, and caisson disease) is a medical condition caused by dissolved gases emerging from solution as bubbles inside the body tissues during decompression.DCS most commonly occurs during or soon after a decompression ascent from underwater diving, but can also result from other causes of depressurisation ...

It seems that all the fun has gone out of the whacky Kat Kartoonist thread.

I shall start a Robert Murray-Smith thread because he continuously blows my pea brain*. Today it's putting graphene in the water to supercharge steam engines.

He's at Episode 1939. 1939 wasn't a particularly a good year, but he's on the way to 1956. !956 was the Best. Year. Ever. (I was 12 years old, and rock and roll was new)

*I thought it was a joke, but check this:

Phenethylamine - Wikipedia
Phenethylamine (PEA) is an organic compound, natural monoamine alkaloid, and trace amine, which acts as a central nervous system stimulant in humans. In the brain, phenethylamine regulates monoamine neurotransmission by binding to trace amine-associated receptor 1 (TAAR1) and inhibiting vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) ...

The Garfield Cartoonist is still at it. I'm in Maui at the moment "struggling" to catch up on episodes and forum.

Recently he noted that the NAACP has a travel advisory that black folk should not visit FloRida because of how hostile and dangerous it is. Essentially, people of a certain color should stay the heck away from people of a certain other color, but said in the "politically correct" (read-incorrect) way. He noted that in essence it's exactly what he was cancelled for.

I thought the most interesting point today was at the very beginning when he speculates:
Quote:
0:00 foreign good morning everybody and welcome to
0:07 the highlight of civilization the best thing that's ever happened since possibly the early civilizations before
0:13 the ice age that we're not so sure existed but I think they did if you'd like to take your experience up to post
0:20 Ice Age amazingness all you need is a cup or a mug or a glass a tanker chalices dying the canteen Joker flask a
0:28 vessel of any kind...
Later he goes into a 'watch me, I'm dangerous' routine.

Elsewhere today the best aphorism I've seen is "Satire is a lesson, parody is a game."

The best satire is where nobody gets the joke. See it a lot here.
