I have no clue about the voltage drop and max current of the LED's as they are cheap W5W (T10) ones from AliExpress. I have 3 of them installed in the interior light, when set to illuminate on 'door open', the central one always glows a bit because of residual current.

In case of flicker I can put in a second capacitator (I accidentally ordered 2). Unfortunately I'm still waiting for the LED-sockets to arive, so I can't start yet

Ok,

the led’s or diodes create a certain voltage drop.

So if you have 14v from the battery and the led drops it 2.7v, the radio will see 11.3V.

The amount of current passing through the led’s will be determined by the radio. If it draws a lot of amps a lot of amps will have to pass through the led.

Think of the radio as a variable resistance. The more power it needs the more the resistance drops.

I am going to do this, too. I figure a 4700uf cap at 25v does it. Any suggestions as to diode? I am inexperienced with them. Something like this? ... "Poilee 15amp Diode Axial Schottky Blocking Diodes for Solar Cells Panel,15SQ045 Schottky Diodes 15A 45V"

My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.

This has been on my "I need to do this" for years, but all the circuits I've seen were more complex and just didn't want to bother with it. THIS thread here? YES OP you my best friend. Gonna have to do this ASAP!

You can use just about any diode you want, I'm just using 'plain' W5 diodes from the parts stash.

This has worked for my on most of my cars, but not my 4.0 Jeep or 2.4 Celica. I even ran wires direct to the battery. Either the battery sags too much during cranking, or the car grounds the radio while cranking. On the Jeep, the car grounds the radio...

I'll eventually get around to investigating further, but the mod is still useful on the Jeep as normally the radio turns off at the first position from on. The ignition switch is arranged as ACC-LOCK-OFF-ON-START So at least I can EOC and bump start now.
