Evidence suggests that road biased tyres make for a much easier pedal on the turbo trainer!

Success there then

I shall investigate!

I only took off the nut and the 3 bits that seemed to go on the outside of the bracket (following what I saw when i stripped off the original)

Will ahve a look and thanks for bringing it to my attention

Ridden this twice since the new tyres.

They are sufficiently less draggy to allow me to tack another 5 mins onto the ride..

Now means I'm seeing about 6 miles in 35 mins. Aim this week is to get to 11mph(so 6.4miles or so) in 35 mins, then hit 40 mins the week after.

Given that at the start I could just about do 2.5 miles in 20 mins, I reckon progress is decent.

Come the Easter long weekend, I'm hoping to get the bike out on my usual ride and see how I can improve

At 34 mins and 50 secs into last night's ride, the chain decided it much preferred being a free spirit..

Sickened, I just left it.

I shall sort the shift tomorrow-i have a guide for doing the front (which seems to be the issue) and will get the cables oiled.

Tonight is pub/curry night with work

1) Chain is cleaned and oiled
2) Check to see that front derailleur is 5mm above large chain ring
3) Shift to lower chain ring and adjust limit screw to move cage over inner ring
4) Shift to upper chain ring and adjust limit screw to move cage over outer ring
5) Adjust cable tension to suit.
I use moly disulfide CV joint grease to lube cables. If you are concerned about health warnings, wear gloves.
Our local library has several books on mountain bike repair.

Unless someone has put a hex on it, a machine is not out to get you

What tyre pressure are you running?

Since I run 99% of the time on macadam with 700C x 35 tires I use 85 psi even though the side wall says 75 psi. My shop air compressor is set to cut off at 90psi. Try experimenting with increments of 10 psi.

Years ago I met a Bible teacher from Liverpool by the name of Charles D. Alexander. He liked his car and told me, "My old car goes right fast. Sometimes the younger fellows try to pass me but I don't always let them."

It appears the last chain based episode has smashed the chainguard.

I shall investigate removal forto add lightness, and an added sense of danger when cycling in flares

Flares and bellbottoms were made to roll up whilst swabbing the decks. I use a metal clip made to fit at the ankle.
