Paraphrasing, that's always been my thought about doctors. "Remember, half of all doctors finished in the lower half of their class".

Though not technically true since the really bad students drop out long before they become doctors, it's close enough.

I like to tell new parents 50% of babies are below average cute. Somebody pointed out that a few really ulgy ones might be out there with the majority still being cute.

The smart scale might be tipped the other way with a few Einsteins making average dumb.

JBP mentions that most everything our brain does is way too important for us to be conscious of. He likes to ask how long we'd last if we had to decide to breath, and how much, and to not forget or get distracted. A relatively small portion of our brain is devoted to what we would consider consciousness and intelligence. There's probably a fairly small difference between high IQ and low IQ people that ends up in considerable difference in occupations and problem solving skills.

I say that most people think they are smarter than average, which is statistically impossible, and someone commented the opposite way, maybe the most are smarter than average, but [people of that team you dislike] bring down the average.

My other favorite quote is "Standardized tests merely measure your ability to take standardized tests."

I cannot find that source either!

I was 92nd percentile on the SAT, 99th on the ASVAB, and something like 80th on the GRE. That doesn't sound very good, but the average GRE score of students accepted into the grad school where I applied is around 40th percentile.

Cute is subjective. Puppies, kittens, babies and waifus have an innate advantage.
