Either it's value will go to zero, blaring Space Oddity on the way; or it will become the most valuable Tesla Roadster in the Solar System.

Also, theft-proof.

Theft-proof, or theft-extremely difficult?

Perhaps it's considered abandoned at that point, and therefore considered salvage rather than theft.

Is it well preserved in the vacuum of space, or does the scorching radiation do more damage? It can't oxidize, so I'm not sure what the heat would do.

As long as the battery pack stays within -20 and +140 F and gets a regular recharge, it'll be fine. Never mind
I would not trust the tires after a couple of months in space either. Nor the windscreen washer liquid.

Well, one way or the other; it will increase the value of every Roadster that remains [very little].

Well, watching Tesla attempt to release a product is slightly less interesting than watching a snail migration. We've got short attention spans.

More news, seems more up to date then the last.

I, for one, find this race of scale up vs the ticking time clock of reservations vs capital expenditure pretty riveting. Maybe you're in the wrong thread?

No, I find this extremely interesting, which is why I'm in here. I'm just saying the casual person doesn't consider these things and is more interested in when they will get their Tesla order fulfilled. To those people, this thread is a snail race.

I've often speculated that delays might be partially strategic. It would be best for Tesla to sell the 200,000th car on day 1 of a new quarter to extend their unlimited window of qualifying tax credits. That's when you set production to ludicrous speed. Trickle out production until you have worked every conceivable wrinkle out of the system, and at the start of a new quarter, set production to ramming speed. Fulfill as many of those reservations as possible so that you can convert as many of them into sales as possible.

Or, maybe making battery packs is hard, and it's delaying production.

Well, the automating of the "bandoliers" sounds like a pretty huge step. There are 4,416 cells in the Model 3 long-range pack and 2,976 cells in the shorter-ranged version. Hand-assembling all that from scratch definitely sounds like a losing proposition.

I would assume the finished bandoliers are fed into a machine to assemble the blocks that make up the battery. But even if they're being hand assembled as well, that's still only 1/20th the number of items a human has to assemble.

One could put a Tesla reservation in one hand and an Arcimoto reservation in the other and see (as they say) which one fills up first.
