Decreases in short-term memory, IQ, and altered brain metabolic ratios in urban apolipoprotein ?4 children exposed to air pollution -- ScienceDaily

"The authors argue that sustained exposures to urban air pollution result in cognitive underperformance and metabolic brain changes that reflect glial and neuronal alterations. The combined effects of residency in a highly polluted city and APOE ε4 could lead to an acceleration of neurodegenerative changes. Air pollution is a serious public health issue and exposures to concentrations of air pollutants at or above the current standards have been linked to neuroinflammation and neuropathology. In the US alone, 200 million people live in areas where pollutants such as ozone and fine particulate matter exceed the standards. There are significant associations between exposures to particulate matter and increased mortality due to stroke, cardiovascular, and respiratory events."

At least the air pollution is silent. My neuropathology comes from noise (i.e., tinnitus) and my peace of mind is robbed by the sound of rubber tires on the road.

The last place I lived, when the freeways quieted down at night, then I could hear the train-yard. Now the Coast Starlight highballs through right across the street, and at night there're random boxcars crashing into each other in the switch-yard.

Then there is light pollution.

It takes a lot of activity from supply systems to support a large population.

Hyperloop freight trains sized for the 20' container. Bucky Fuller said society runs at an overall efficiency of 4% (in the 1940s). Double that and you can take care of twice the people. We already have done that, at least, since then; but
...
autonomous hyperloop freight trains right down the median of the interstates.

Did you realize that Moore's Law has held for 50 years now? ...what a long, strange trip it's been.

Let's see: EM drive replaces chemical rockets, high-rise hydroponic gardens and orchards replace farmland,Terra Prieta replaces deserts...

They'll never get people out of piston vehicles until the alternative has equivalent supporting infrastructure, equal autonomy, equal safety, equal fun, at an equal cost. Even then it'll still take 30 years, unless they give them to poor people for free.
