Hereabouts they have a hot line to report smoking vehicles. Combine that with a cell phone that can take a picture, including license plate, and seems as though that would be sufficient to issue a citation. Hummm... I wonder if there's an app for that yet?

Now if you wanted to get really nasty, on a third offense the offending vehicle is confiscated and crushed - and the owner has to watch :-)

If I'm on my bike and some goober wants to blast out a cloud of black smoke I just pull in the clutch lever and coast while laughing my arse off as I get 1000 MPG and goob is getting 2. If ole goob just understood how I percieve his efforts to make his stupidity astoundingly obvious he would crawl bck into his wabbit hole.

No offense to the wabbits, or to Bugs Bunny .

Unfortunately, I have not figured out how to quit breathing for long enough for the smoke cloud to dissipate. Especially when I'm on my bike, as I'm usually breathing fairly hard.

They are actually getting fairly rare around here. A big jacked up older Ford 7.3 turbo passes me fairly often when I go to Poquoson at 11 AM. I don't go there as much lately and I just leave a few minutes later. Not really a smoker but he likes to go faster than me and I don't care to smell the exhaust. I used to be able to hold my breath for 3 minutes, but probably 1 would be pushing it now. We also usually have a little wind. Pretty relaxed when riding myself, but a high level of situational awareness and I generally let the traffic go by me and keep max separation. Then I can watch for animals.

Usually it's Dodge Rams around here...rarer than it used to be but DPF deletes are popular, and kids love 12v Cummins trucks...

When I was in junior high, I would go to my friend's house, so that my dad could not lecture me.

So... his dad told stories that were as bad as Dad's lectures. He talked about the bad stuff that he and his friends did as teenagers, including making a 9-volt battery cannon, which they fired at semis on the highway.

OP, thank you for the brief original post.

Poquoson? Is that the same as Pongo? Yeah, those who "troll coal" have the big pipe pointed to the right. I just get behind them and wait or get to the left and black them from getting in front of me. Tada, no smoke.

5.56mm NATO or a 12-gauge slug should do some damage to essential items in the engine compartment, but you'll need .30-06 armor-piercing rounds or larger if you want to penetrate the block.

Bah. Run a bare wire across the back seat. Hook it up to the magneto. Allow the attractive girls who accompanied you to the swimming hole sit their wet butts on that wire laden back seat. Start the engine...and endure the screams

A true story from my dad's youth.
