you definitely don't want to pull spark plugs with injectors working,, raw fuel goes out exhaust.
Spark plugs need to spark no mater of cylinder is working or not . you need way to disable injectors and valves .

My wiring diagram shows injectors 1,3,5 on one wire and 2,4,6 on another. They all have common positive so I could switch the positive and turn off the ones I want. My question is how does only one injector fire when three are on the same wire?

it could be that there is one pump for 1,3,5 but the valves (run off the crank shaft) determin which one gets the fuel.

It's not a diesel. This is the 4.9 liter. I was thinking maybe there are three small bursts per cylinder and the first two sit on the valve until it opens and then the last one fires? Just thinking out loud....

If you don't have sequential ECU injector firing (most 90 an older use simple 2 bank firing ). That is the way injectors set up to fire ,there not timed with firing order like spark timing .

DO NOT run it with the plugs disconnected and injectors still pushing fuel. You'll wash fuel down the cylinder walls, killing lubrication and wearing the engine, as well as diluting the oil with gas. Plus, all the raw gas going out the exhaust will kit the cat.

It sounds like all your injectors fire at once, common on older systems. In my car I have two injector fuses, one for each bank of cylinders. I have made a 3 cylinder Fiero but it was terrible to drive! Thats where I wired my injector kill switch for EOC, I never tried to kill just one bank at cruise speed! I could wire it to kill one bank for cruise at speed but It's really hot here now

Sorry...I thought it was sequential injection. not sure why. I am going to try shutting down half the injectors tomorrow and see what happens. Maybe it was running different because there was still fuel going out the exhaust. One way or another I will find out if it gives any gains. It would be nice to run on 3 cylinders in town and while cruising empty.

Disabling an injector would likely set off the check engine light, although it might be possible to reprogram the controller or replace it with an aftermarket one. But then I don't think there'll be any real economic benefit.
