it does take a little more throttle to get going, but not a lot.
I would prefer to keep the rear cylinders dedicated as they are the closest to the flywheel and it would keep stresses out of the crank.

Is the fresh air keeping my O2 sensor in open loop mode anyway? I wonder.....
and the cat is probably staying cold too....

Yes the o2 is gonna read the extra oxygen from the off cylinders. Disregard it

Nothing yet. i have a bunch of things to do before I can mess with it on a serious note. I still have to be able to get to work if I am called in, since the cars are down for the motor swap. I still need to get my brother over here so We can pick the motor out of the sunfire. I don't have a motor hoist, so it will be lifted by hand. The accessories will come off with it in the car to make it lighter. It is still kind of cold out and I am not looking forward to doing it in the cold, but it can't be left on hold much longer.

The horsepower and torque will almost double, so the sunfire is really going to move. The only accessories on the 3.8 are the alternator and water pump. It seemed to gain quite a bit of power when I removed the P/S and A/C. It will do 0-60 in about 5 seconds in the olds, so the sunfire should be around 4 seconds, since it is almost 1,000 lbs lighter. The only other thing I can remove from the sunfire is the back seat and that only weighs a few lbs. The spare will stay. I have been toying with the idea of moving the battery to the trunk to help shift some weight back.

Sorry to resurrect this, but did you ever make any progress?

I want to try to put the injector of one cylinder on my accord on a switch, it has low compression in #3 anyway, 2.2 sohc. The idea came up after I had an injector stop feeding in the beginning of a long trip and just drove it. It ran pretty good and sounded like a Subaru.

I have not messed with it since. Been too busy. I want to put the o2 sensor on the rear bank and then I can shut off the fron bank without messing with the o2 signal. Problem then is I don't get the o2 read from the front bank. Not sure if it will hurt or not, but it will be a smaller sample for the o2 to read and might not be as accurate.

i have a 300cid [4.9L] Inline six ford ..

very long build on that engine .. 23-25 years last time i tried to figure it out ..

as i have said before on this forum to derned bad ford did not get market acceptance back in '77
or then again maybe there was some other glitch..

had this been an option on my custom i would have selected it
in 77 ford had a tricky little solenoid valve set up ,,
see this article
i wonder if the current dual displacements have similar technology

I had a F150 in 1992 that had a MPI 300 SIx. Got consistant 26 MPG on flat freeway.

Chrysler Hemi engines in the cars and now trucks used VSD tech with is just computer controlled cylinder dropping.

Cadillac V8's have been variable displacement since Northstar was introduced...

NOt real new any more...

Dave

um, where'd you get that the northstar is variable displacement from?

the northstar was never variable displacement(unless you classify the emergency measures so you can get off the highway if you run out of coolent, variable displacement) and most of them don't have vvt either.

now the lsx series and the hemi do have variable displacement(well some of them do)
