my CEL is turning on/off all the time anyway. I'm not worried about it. I can put the scanner on it if it acts up.

It will probably trip a CEL, but it should still run.

Bringing an old thread to life. I never got around to messing with cylinder deactivation after this thread died. My apologies. I just talked with my brother again and we still want to try turning off 3 or 4 injectors and see what happens.

Even if mileage only goes up a few mpg's it will be a good mod. We don;t get to see each other a lot since he works AND goes to school. We are going to try it as soon as we get a chance. His ran low on fuel a while ago. It was only running on a few cylinders and sounded just like a little diesel running! I am really starting to love that sound. It is supposed to be warmer tomorrow, so I will try to fiddle with my injectors if I get some time.

He is really getting into this ecomodding stuff!

Good way to melt the cat with 3 injectors still pumping fuel with no spark.

Exclamation

I have been hashing this injector business over all night.
There are two exhaust manifolds on the 300-6, one for 1-3 and another for 4-6.
If I were to disable half the cylinders, it would be 1-3 or 4-6 as dictated by the firing order. If I turn off injectors and let the engine run fresh air through the exhaust, the O2 sensor will richen up the mix in the other 3 cylinders and any benefits will be negated.

I was thinking I could make the exhaust dual until after the O2 sensor and cat. This would let the fresh air bypass the O2 sensor and the mix would stay the same without interfering with the cat.

I could install another cat (which I have) on the second line that would light when the cylinders are turned back on. I believe this mod would essentially turn the 6 into two 3's which could be run independently.

I am assuming the O2 sensor will still keep all 6 cylinders in spec. When all cylinders are lit, the output from the 3 switchable cylinders will be the same as the 3 dedicated cylinders and the O2 sensor will not know if it is seeing 3 or 6.

If you have any ideas, please let them fly. I want to find any holes in this theory.

Here is a pic of what I would do. I will try to unplug three cylinders(they are hard to get to) and go for a drive.

I just got back from a drive. I managed to get the injectors unplugged but it was cold so one of the clips broke I managed to hit 40-45 on the road, but that was it.

I am uploading the video now. It sounds and smells rich. I think the O2 sensor is richening up the mix. I will put the scanner on it and see what turns up. It sounds good on three cylinders. The camera did not do it justice.

Why not pull the pushrods for the intake of each paired cylinder, then pull the injector plugs off. Voila, no pumping losses, no wasted fuel.
