With summer heat predicted to be up, it was time to give Centurion a look-over. This turned out to be productive - the original 1982 water pump was just starting to seep.... Time to replace it!
-
Very easy to get at:
-

-
-
The culprit caught in the act:
-

-
-
The old and the new:
-

-

-
And the new pump ready to install:
-

-
-
What should've taken just an hour took much more... After a cursory tightening, I spun the pump by hand.... I was scraping the timing cover:
-

-

-
-
Nothing a file and some time can't fix:
-

-
-
And while it was still light out, a heat barrier was installed on the firewall.
-

-
Nearly ready for the summer heat!

An epic journey: Colton, New York to Monterey, California!
-
For those who have followed the story of this Centurion - it is good - like really good. But, it could be epic - Queen Mother Mary epic!
-
How?
-
Well, there is a contest happening, and Centurion is now part of it. It's called "MeetJayContest", and it's a chance to meet Jay Leno in Monterey, CA at a huge car show at the end of August. The contest will fly the winner to California... If I could win, I'm proposing driving the distance to put a little octane back in the contest!
-
If this were to actually happen, the journey would get even better with cameos along the way on the legendary Route 66! (There are ecomodders in the vicinity!)
-
One of the biggest, most historic pitstops, would be in Phoenix, Arizona where Centurion's designer Robert Q. Riley resides. Imagine that reunion! Maybe I could get the Mechanix Illustrated magazine I bought 34 years ago - signed by Mr. Riley himself! (I'd have him sign the car too!!)
-
There's so many interesting angles to a story like this such as:
- Would the car make it across the US?
- How much fuel would it use?
- Can the tire's adhesive that holds the white lettering on them survive?
These are just a few of questions inquiring minds want to know!
-
But it looks like winning may at least have something to do with popularity votes. Centurion has a lot of fans across the miles and if this is something you'd love to see happen as much as I would, give the little Centurion a like, share, or retweet from this Twitter link:

-
This is an opportunity of a lifetime and a chance to put the north country back on the map... by driving across it..... behind the wheel of a 17 horsepower tractor engine!
-
Still think I'm crazy? - lol!

I would change the intro to be more succinct. Sell the idea of the car, the trip, and what the car is about. You can also link a 15 second video. I'd also get a better picture with you standing in front of it with your display board.

JUDGING
: A panel of qualified judges selected by Sponsors (“Judges”) will review the eligible Entries received during the ContestPeriod and select a potential winner (“Winner”) on or about July 22, 2016 based on the following judging criteria (“Judging Criteria”): Originality (50%) and Creativity (50%).
If you do win, have the trip mpg certified by guiness for an mpg record. That could also be a selling point.

RECORDING: Sponsor, in their sole discretion, may choose to record and/or broadcast the Appearance on Jay Leno’s Garage (the “Show”).

HHOTDI,
This is the type of enthusiasm that can make this venture happen. The contest has a total prize value which would easily cover the drive across the US and some pork rinds. That's the beauty of it - paid for via contest sponsors.
-
If there is support just in the form of "likes" or "retweets" this just might do the trick. At the very least, the car gets noticed and the contest judges can decide if this entry is interesting enough to award the prize to. This particular contest is also running via Instagram under the same hashtag: #MeetJayContest
Additionally, I've made a post to facebook and that being "shared" to others. The more noise this makes, the better the chance. It's a wild idea but what a story this could be!
