The best way to conserve energy at home...

Probably IS NOT to lose your home to a tornado.

However, it is conducive to a lower energy bill.

My trailer was the only one affected by the F1 touchdown in wellsburg, ny last night. Total loss, limited insurance coverage, and not s bunch of options. But I still have a sense of humor about the whole situation.

I saw that on TV and it looked terrifying.
Truly glad we don't get THOSE here...fires and floods are bad enough.

Great to know you are OK though.

Peter.

That's bad news

Total loss as in damaged beyond repair, or totally gone ?

Damaged beyond repair. A good lot of the "stuff" we had was saved, but not sure about electronics, etc.. They appear to be ok, but you know how electronics can be.

My son lost a few of his toys, and most of my clothes are wet or damaged.

Of the nearly $1200 in groceries in the house, nearly everything was saved.

Other than taking care of all the legal issues, its going to be time for cleanup soon, which means salvaging usable or recyclable materials.

It may have been our home, but that's no reason to treat it any differently than any other damaged home I've torn down.

The news interviewer mentioned that I was probably the most calm, collected person he'd ever seen, given the circumstances.

I'm still pretty new here but I've gotten a lot of great information from your posts, Christ.

I'm sorry to hear about your storm troubles. Sounds like you have a great attitude about it...I don't think I'd be nearly as calm and collected in your situation.

Hope things get back to normal for you and your family ASAP.

John

I second what the interviewer said, staying cool is always a good option, coming unglued is never a good option. Sorry to hear it happened, but glad you have health/supplies/resources/abilities/presence of mind (as I'm sure you and your family are glad too).

That's a bummer, Christ
I hope that you collect as much stuff as possible. Do have a place to stay at the moment?

I just got off the phone with the park management, as dutifully unhelpful add they tends to be...

They're going to give us another trailer in the park that is a bit bigger than ours was, and needs some repairs. I really have no choice but to accept.

I don't know why I'm always calm, but it's kinda scary sometimes that things like my uncle committing suicide just don't affect me. When things happen like this, I feel strangely disconnected from the situation, as though it's not even my life that's gone awry.
