The bootloaders can be unlocked and custom firmware can be loaded onto most any Android phone. For many years I ran Android Open Source Project operating systems on my phones.
Even without that, an app store is not necessary. Android has a file system much like Linux and one can transfer and execute apps independent of the walled gardens.

Have you tried recently to opensource the current OS's? Had my android 9 phone for a month so far and I am just now able to not have google intercept all the time. All the root stuff is blocked from downloading, my XP and win10 machines won't recognize the phone at all.

Looks like there won't be a House vote today.
Rep. Thomas Massie, Republican from Kentucky, is refusing to waive House rules and allow a voice vote. That means the House needs to fly back to Washington to pass this bill.

I unlocked my Pixel 1, but went back to stock after I found Google's software was a bit faster than AOSP. Haven't tried with my 3. |

Unemployment may boost the economy
$21 an hour. Unemployment will pay as much as someone earning $21 an hour x 40 hours.
Between my two jobs, I will make less. Should I get myself fired, file for unemployment, and spend all of my time here?

Nope. We're closing the gap.

86498 cases Italy today.
They're getting under 10% new infections each day for the last 5 days and 20% or less for the last 14 days.
We've been adding well above 20% to our new case number each day for the last 4 weeks, the lowest in that time being 23%.
Italy sustained growth in case numbers above 20% for a streak of only 18 days. |

The House passed the stimulus bill. Enough reps returned to Washington to form a quorum and overrule Massie's attempt to block the bill. I'm sure he is really popular with his co-workers right now.

If you get on unemployment and stay home, you won't be getting anyone sick.
I'm considering asking for a temporary layoff. I make more than it would pay, but not if I have to go to 32 hour weeks or something, and I could really use 4 months of time to work on my house.
Abusing the system? Yes. Make a stupid law and I'll definitely consider following it though. |

I've got 3 guys that were at 40+ hours. Earlier this week I cut them to 28. I'm going to have to cut 2 of them completely on Monday.
Now that Congress passed it, they're probably going to all fight to be those 2. I'm probably going to have to let all 3 go, and I really mean "let" as in "allow".
