I'm an auto parts advisor for a VW/Audi dealership. I've been working in the automotive field for almost 30yrs...19yrs w/ VW/Audi. I like the job because it has a nice balance of clerical & hands-on work. Plus, I've been fortunate enough to remain employed through these tough times...which makes it all worth while.

Studied architectural design (no materials science), specialising in energy efficient buildings and ergonomic spaces. Now work in (cough) advertising (the shame...).

I've always prefered small and efficient, which what my wife calls my... Oh sorry, gone off topic for a moment. Apart from my Touareg, all my cars have been mid sized or smaller.

I'm a full-time college student studying business management. For side cash I'm a male escort (and I'm happily married to a woman). I served in the Marine Corpsand got out medically 3 years ago. I've been into high horsepower Toyota Supra's for about 6 years now and am currently building one that when I get the bottom end repaired and put it back on the dyno for tuning will have about 500 rear wheel horsepower. Since I drive a lot (30k miles per year) I have to own a FE car. I can't afford to daily drive something that gets less than 40 MPG.

Hi, I work for a fairly well known American guitar company - C.F. Martin. I work on the factory floor with the guitar bodies and necks. I live nearly 95 miles from work so hypermilling has been my hobby and I didn't even know it had a name. I have a scion xD and like to footbag/hacky sack. I currently average around 37 mpg without any mods. I see money to be saved though.

Why the hell would you live so far from work? Might I suggest buying a Geo Metro 3-cylinder 5-speed 2-door hatchback as a new commute vehicle? If you can get that kind of mileage out of that brick I'd love to see what you can get out of a Geo Metro. At the rate you drive you'd have the car paid for in about 3 months, if that.

Love my job, met my wife over a great distance and don't want to sell the house/switch careers on the current economy. It's a temporary thing. Just how soon it changes I'm not sure. Winters are difficult, and construction makes me want to pull my hair out. I don't think my car is a brick but I'll take your suggestion into consideration. Anything in particular I should look for on a geo? Common problems?
