The problem didn't exist in the early life of the car.
Something must be causing it, and that something needs to be sorted !

Last year I decided I'd keep the car for another 5 years.
So I put in cruise control, GPS, got winter tyres and a new set of wheels and summer tyres for it - the tyres will probably last those 5 years.
That's a fair amount of money that I'd rather not give up - and I won't get it back when selling the V50.
Ah, Ouch..

Could it be something to do with the Lamda feedback loop? or a sensor thats fouled and causing false readings?

Pinoslaw- I just remembered vaguely what you said- wasnt meaning to say it as gospel..

From what I recall, the HDi lump is pretty breathless over 3000rpm.

I was just suggesting that euromodder gave the car sufficient heat to keep DPF regen at bay at least once a day?
I bite too easy

Me not happy.

Less than 900 km after the forced regeneration of the DPF and a bath of fresh oil, the oil level is already too high - almost as high as it was before the last service and before the fresh oil got put in !

Oil analysis after a mere 3300 km / 2000 miles shows 6.5% oil dilution.
So that isn't the cause of the rising oil level.

It's either been overfilled, or hasn't been drained properly before being refilled, twice in a row !

There'll have to be some answers ....

Proper used oil drainage from these 1.6HDi engines is apparently crucial, according to the C4owners.org FAQ .
You might want to read up on that, Piwoslaw ...
Same engines, same troubles.

You are going to talk to a Volvo dealer so expect few, if any, true ones from my experiences.

Are you sure they are draining it and not just sucking it out using one of those quick oil change machines ? My old Pug dealer in England used them all the time and had quite a few Turbo failures over the years.

When I went in to have the high oil level corrected, they talked about sucking out some oil, so that could be their method of getting out the oil.

But apparently, Citroen warns not to do that on the 1.6HDi.
Oil needs to be drained by gravity while warm; with filter, filler cap, level probe and drain all opened up.

They seem to have been failing Citroen as well.

The C4 was on my list but went off quickly when I checked out the failures on it.

The answers have been avoided by giving me a date to bring the car in for more extensive testing - they'd like to have it for a week while I get a loaner.
So I'll let them get away with that for the time being, and siphon out the excess oil.

Still got nearly 52 mpg despite running more around town than usual, and LOD being higher than usual as well (the excess oil ?)

Getting home from the fuel station by the low speed route and using long coasting, I managed 3.4L/100km (69mpg) on both the OBC and the ScanGauge AVG !
Maybe it's time to start avoiding the motorway ?

I know where it comes from, I just don't know how the SG comes up with the number. That part hasn't been explained.
