And what with the unfortunate DPF, remove+emulator?
I'd have to refit it every year for the technical inspection, then remove it again.
It'd fail the soot-test without the DPF.

I've been doing a longer motorway trip @ higher speed (120kph / 75mph) using premium diesel fuel, and the DPF regeneration cycle went from 200km up to 300km ! Surprise !

I've just had Hägar serviced at a local garage - a start-up business.
The bloke's charging a mere 70 euro as I've brought my own oil - which was actually more expensive than the service itself !

I'm now running Total Quartz Ineo ECS 5W30 - rated to PSA (the engine manufacturer)'s B712290 standard and an ACEA C2 oil.
I'll switch to Aral High Tronic J meeting these standards @ less than half the price.

Next step : adding an additive to the tank that helps cleaning the DPF without going through the regen process.

The upper grill block has been refitted for a week as the engine took forever to heat up.
I've closed off a bit more than last year. MPG immediately went up at any given speed.

Winter tyres have also been refitted, I'll bring them back up to 3.4 bar / 50psi later today.

Good going! Can't wait to see new entries in your fuel log.
Could the higher engine temperatures from the blocked grille have an influence on the larger interval between regens?

How does the fuel additive work? I've read that PSA forbids adding anything to the fuel, but I guess you don't have much to lose at the moment.

Errr, I'm afraid 2 no-hypermiling trips have brought down my 90-day average quite a bit.

OTOH, doing a trip at 120 kph with a passenger and some extra gear while still beating the NEDC-value by a hair, isn't too bad.
In the past, Hägar would have used at least 10% more fuel.

The reduced time spent running with a cold engine (cold=more soot) may have improved things a bit.

It works much like the regular Eolys regeneration catalyst and also contains Cerium. It lowers the temperature at which soot is burned off.
Main difference is it works permanently (well, until the tank is empty) instead of just during the regen cycle, and that there's no post-injection of diesel and no oil thinning as a result.
They claim it also promotes cleaner combustion, leading to less soot in the first place.

We'll see wether it helps or not.

Volvo forbids fuel-additives as well, but the dealership has also put in some unknown additive in June.

Like you said, there's nothing to lose.
If I can get the regen cycle to go up to 400km / 250mls, I'd be happy.

I think I mentioned a DPF cleaning additive earlier - glad you are celebrating your "freedom" in the right way

Ditching the expensive Volvo servicing will improve the cost/mile
I don't want to sell this piece of solidified misery to someone else, so it's going to the breakers when I'm done with it.

I'll likely get a fun car on the side.
Yes, I'm a sinner
Nice approach!

TBH, you've had your money's worth out it anyways already..

as for the fun car any ideas?needs to be v8 and petrol

maybe an old 240 GL/Torslanda with an LS1?

As for the DPF situ- glad to see that the gaps between DPF regen are increasing- cant believe oil would have such an impact

Not quite.
I'd rather keep my cars for a while - say 10 years.

Petrol: Check.
V8: Nope

It's got to be sensibly funny
And it surely won't be a Volvo.

That wasn't the oil, but likely the effect of doing a long trip.
The oil only went in after the 600+ miles trip.

Good thing though, let's hope it continues this way.
The DPF cleaner fluid arrived today, so I'll add it to the fuel tank and top up.

The winter tyres are on and reinflated to 3.4 bar / 50 psi.
They were down to around 2.2 bar / 32psi due to being stored for 8 months.
The few miles I've done with them being "flat" felt like driving a lead sled.

Tossed another 4 kg out of the car.
Deleted the Rica remapping from the planned mods as it ain't going to happen - I'm not sinking any more money into this ride.

The good news already ended yesterday, with a mere 140 km between DPF-regenerations. Bummer
