Bumpstarting in reverse with modern vehicles is not recommended because reverse is about the same ratio as first.

I did it once in an early 1960's van with three on the tree, but first and reverse on those transmissions is similar to second in today's five and six speeds. Ran the battery down in a situation involving painting the local water tower....

22 Maverick: Summer 2022 burned 62.74 gallons in 3145.1 miles for 50.1 MPG. Winter 2023-2024 - 2416.7 miles, 58.66 gallons for 41 MPG.

Bump starting going backwards is tough on your tranny AND motor mounts!

Gear rations are way higher and thus more JERK/BUMP.
Some happy owners and have earned the prize of buying new clutch or even CV axles while dong this(maybe not instantly but soon)...

Rear bump start ONLY in dire need, K?

Or keeping a spare gallon of gas behind the seat as "insurance" when trying to get 700 mile tanks, knowing it can extend your range over 50 miles if you run out....

LOL, when doing my longest MPG stretch, I had a 2 liter bottle of DIESEl with me in case I ran out(and I did).
That 2 liter took me ~ 26 miles...

Eventually, I'm trying another go at that number, hoping more MODS. will be done by then...

Without counting that extra fuel, total mileage was 1,526 miles/26 gallons
