I was likely just going to use a hydraulic filter, the same filter head I use on the transmission.
The transmission filter shown here some where. It is over kill for a P/S system.

I may just pick up a universal oil filter base for a smaller oil filter and use that.

Got an Amsoil Bypass Filter for it with the 25% discount, not installed yet. Also replaced the steering column.

Before I get to the most recent modification I'll give an update of what has been done so far.

Since the last post I changed the oil to Shell T6 0w40. Great for cold starts but it's thinner when hot too, in the 13-14 range where the 5w40 is in the 14-15 range. I have to add a few ounces of oil fairly frequently but I got the 0w40 on clearance for $5 per gallon so no complaints.

I've been using Diesel Kleen for over a month now and the engine sounds quieter. I seem to have been getting around 20 MPG (maybe less) with all things considered, however this is just judging by miles traveled and where the needle is as we still haven't filled the tank up all the way. I've been filling up at the same pump at $2.459 per gallon as it's the cheapest place nearby without sacrificing a lot of quality. There was another pump I went to that gave off DTCs but I haven't had any lately.

Today's update at 408,7xx: Removed the roof rack. Bolts were stripped so I cut through the plastic and the metal to get at them; even after I did though I couldn't get a lot of them out with vice grips, they're stuck tight and I had to hold the roof inserts with vice grips too and even then some of them wouldn't come out. Have to work on them some more. No data on possible MPG increase yet.

Glad to see this thread bumped again. I got a 1994 Turbo Diesel Suburban a while back on a trade, haven't put it on the road yet as I want to get some work done to it first.

I didn't mention it in the last reply but in late May a fuel line started leaking. I drained and removed the tank and the issue was only a loose hose clamp. I then cleaned up the tank, patched and painted it then put epoxy on top of that. I have no idea if the patches will hold though as I only used Permatex then painted it and put epoxy on top of that. However, the holes are at least halfway up the tank so there's still a lot of room to work with even if they do leak again and the tank's not "glued" in anymore (like they often get to be on this model of auto.)

Per the roof bolts, I got them out yesterday and drove today. I haven't put silicone around the mangled roof inserts yet. Going on the same route (Approx. 15 miles with hills but overall downhill,) I got the SG2 to read higher on average than I previously was able to! Previous best (which is probably optimistic with this non-calibrated gauge): 34 AVG. New best: 34.4. However, I was going a little fast and I believe it could have been higher if I was pushing myself more. The reading on the return trip was higher too, I got the gauge to read 17 noticeably quicker and the total average for the day was just over 27. The gauge isn't calibrated properly but I haven't touched it since the last trip on the same route with the roof rack and the water temperature was colder at start than the previous trip. I do use the block heater but it's only good for maybe a 50 degree increase over several hours.

Another note: I removed the duct tape skirting months before the last reply. I thought it had an effect but Mom kept saying it looked horrible so now I'm giving thought to making skirting. There's a metal worker down the road from me who I could talk to about this. I'm also thinking of getting or making smoothie hubcaps. More importantly though I have to coat the whole underside with Fluid Film because of where I live!

I tried to get my 93 going the other day but wasn't getting fuel to the injectors. I'm now in the middle of replacing the IP. I turned up pump pressure and fuel on it also . Hope to soon be driving and enjoying it like you have been.

Which engine's in that 93, is it a 6.2? I was reading about those and have thought of putting one in the Caprice albeit after modifications. (Turbo + Horsepower Mods)

I have been enjoying this Suburban, really. The seats are a lot better for me than those in the other cars I drive even though the suspension's stiffer than both the other cars, the Wagon being the coziest ride as far as the suspension's concerned.

Do you have experience with fuel additives? I've noticed Renewable Lubricants have a few I could directly order from them. PRI-D is another one and I haven't tried either and that same company has PRI-G for gasoline engines which I also wonder about. I wonder if there's data on the effectiveness of these compared to other additives such as the Diesel Kleen I've been using which, though it quiets the engine, I'm not sure how well it works? Well, a Google search may help now.

I've gotten more from Howes Meaner Cleaner than from the rest since everyone changed formulas to work with big truck DPF. Both my CTD and big inch Class 8 trucks. Lubrizol released an injector body cleaner to the retail mixers that improved the breed.

It is a 6.5. it came with that but i had to change it out when first bought because PO didn't install the starter brace and the ear broke off. it has a 98 6.5 now

would love to put one in a 1950 4 door chevy car. talk about fun!

mine is a 3500 so suspension is stiff but still love it.

be careful with additives not tested. and be aware of advertisers claims. i would only stick with the tried and true brands.

for a good injector cleaner, i use Liqui Moly Diesel Purge. use it straight from the can, not mixed in the tank. other than that, i use nothing else.

did get the truck running and have put 70 miles on it so far. it's tagged, inspected and insured.
tank was a mess with sludge an inch thick (cut it in two to look at it), fuel lines were caked with what looked like mushy rubber. installed all new fuel lines with diesel rated rubber type and installed a 30 gallon tank in the bed. i will put in another saddle tank and use the bed tank as an auxiliary.
i using 2 cycle in the tank now.
any updates on yours?
