After doing some research on aero civic and posts by aerohead, I've decided on leaving the middle section open, however I will mold the front lip into a rounded tire spat so that it will divert the air AROUND either side of the front tire (some of the air will go to the outside of the front tire, while some of the air will ne channeled down the middle of my underbelly tray)

From aero civics blog:
"The wheels have been integrated into an airflow management system that splits the wind to either side of the front wheels, then keeps this divided flow moving smoothly down past the rear wheels where a wheel boat tail allows it to rejoin behind the car."

Of course I'll make it look somewhat presentable to the "normal eye."

I'll post up some sketches later.

I really have no experience with this kind of stuff, still in the reading and planning stage for the majority of it (especially since it doesn't appear most people have done anything to a Cruze). I wonder how he was able to curve the aluminum frame he built for that diffuser.

Also, if you had a diffuser in the rear, might that affect the decision to extend the front lip or not?

Aluminum can be blended easily by hand. Welding it is a different story.

See my previous post (front lip design), yes I'll definitely need to make a diffuser to keep th3 airflow out the back cleaner.

I have found a set of offset Wiss tin snips works best for me.

Another best tank ever! I Reinstalled installed my kill switch and took a mini roadtrip this weekend. Lots of highway miles through hilly mountains.

30.06mpg!

However, Tragic loss today. I had to abandon my full underbelly tray on the side of the highway.

The reason is due to a critical design flaw when I was initially building the tray. 3 corners of the undertray were properly bolted to the chassis of the car, however I got lazy and on.the final corner, I simply double sided tape to the underside of the OEM side skirt. I figured that if the three corners were properly bolted it should be able to withhold the weight of the undertray. Plus my side skirts held up fine with double sticky tape so I far (11 months).

I think over time, driving over driveways at an angle would flex the car too much and would cause that double sided tape to slowly lose its grip until finally today, that one corner gave loose on the highway and I heard a loud screeching noise. I would have tried to salvage the undertray however I was driving home after a long road trip and I had to get back in time to catch a play (The Book of Mormon).

Now my girlfriend forbids me from eco modding my car, whatever. Time to go back to home depot and rebuild version 2.0 this time with properly mounting all four corners to the chassis....in secret ,

Glad I came across this thread btw. I've got a 2014 2.0i Hatch. I'm planning on EcoModding starting to eco mod it in the near future. Still having fun with personalizing it first.
