Converting Cali Civic VX to Fed (lean burn) VX

Just finished building my harness!

Got the new harness installed....



I plugged it all in, then the car wouldn't start!!! I was like "awwwww crap!"

Then I tightened down my ground wire...

Everything's running fine, no check engine light on or any other noticeable problems!

I guess the next thing to do is finding out how to monitor lean burn? I thought there was a dash console that had a lean burn light?

On the 49 states version there is a green shift up light on the gauge cluster that illuminates when it's time to shift gears to maintain the best fuel economy.

I have an extra console like that from my parts car, but it's got an extra plug in the back that I don't have a wire for. Even if it tells you when to shift, does it let you know if you're in lean burn?

There's nothing that indicates lean burn mode. I've read threads where people think they can feel lean burn, but that's it. The MPGuino is a good option and provides a direct read out of MPG.

I've switched the instrument wire harness once, but with another 49/S VX so I'm not sure where the extra plug goes. If you can post a pic of the back of your cluster I can take a look at the one I have.

after driving at highway speeds yesterday, I could also feel lean burn mode. I could especially feel it coming out of lean burn if I gave it a little more gas. I noticed someone on this board called it their "butt sensor" cause that's how they monitored lean burn

The cluster I have with the shift light has a plug near the yellow plug that is approximately the same size as the yellow plug. I'll get a pic of it a little bit later.

NachtRitter Thank you for your efforts. I'd contacted you last November for the wire diagram of the 8 wire plug and you helped. I have had all the components since then but just decided to install it now.

Well it works as of today and I will be taking a 900 mile trip tomorrow to see if the mpg is better.

does anyone have a part number for the 5-wire wide band LAF sensor in the 1992 VX. It looks like I may have one in the car I just got. Interested in putting in an ECU. If I do have the 5-wire wide band LAF sensor, is it just a straight ECU Swap or do I need to do anything programmatical?

Also, do you think I can pass smog in CA with the federal ECU or just swap the ECU out to pass smog every time I need to handle the bi annual CA smog test.

Not sure on the part number but as long as its a 5-wire and not a 4-wire you should be good to just swap ecu's. If the o2 is bad after you swap ecu's this seems to be the best replacement for the price Amazon.com: NGK 24300 Oxygen Sensor - NGK/NTK Packaging: Automotive
