Can't convince the wife

I would focus on doing mods that will help her mileage no matter how she drives, like pumping up the tires and aeromods. Then you can save gas/money and she can drive how she wants.
Sounds like I'm pretty lucky that my wife is semi-interested in getting good mileage. In the Prius, I would say she could come within a few MPGs on me in most situations. She thinks of it as a game, but sometimes she just doesn't care.

Screw that! I am not going to work hard to help her when she doesn't even care. Don't get me wrong, I continue to offer ideas and help, but the mindless gaze or whining or excuses on why not mean I shouldn't bother wasting my time.

OP might see it differently, and he may be above my pettiness, but I won't have someone think they are doing better because of "nothing." I will help someone as far as they want, but one won't see the day I work hard on something that someone else doesn't care about.

I don't know about you UltArc, but money is "ours" in the relationship. Every dollar she saves, we save. It's more to put towards travel/school/investments/retirement.

At one point, I had a house full of roommates and knew I couldn't convince them to conserve since their rent was a single flat rate per month. Instead of getting mad about bathroom fans being left on or lights not getting turned off, I changed everything to timer switches and installed energy efficient aerators, lightbulbs, etc.

There is no sense getting upset about the petty differences in a relationship... but I've only been married 6 months, so it's easy for me to say at this point.

It's not "helping her" as much as it is "helping us". Those mods would be transparent to OP's wife yet still would help her save gas. The OP's goal is to save $$$.

In your words, OP would not hear whining or excuses about driving better since she may not even notice the car is different.

For all you men out there trying to get you wives to drive more efficiently try to sit down with her talk to her about why you are passionate about driving more efficiently (Give reasons other then just money) Let her know that it would mean a lot to you if she took more interest in what you have interest in, and then ask her if there is anything she would like You to show more interest in.

Cute idea: Buy her a little notebook/pen, set it up for her to log her fills *Date *Miles *Gallons *Price (somewhere in notebook add in a few tips that you use for her to read(keep it easy to understand))

Cute idea: Start her a garage on here for she can be more involved (You can upload a picture of her car for her and everything )

Another thing is, we were always "late". Ultimately I found a solution that worked wonderfully: LIE about the departure time- say you want to be on the road at 5:30 when the truth is you want to be on the road at 6:00. You will end up leaving at 6 and everybody will be happy... well, except about your GRANNY driving.

I figured this out about 3 months into marriage haha. I only needed a 15 minute adjustment but it's become an essential part of my planning

19 mpg first tank to 26 mpg 2nd tank in her car after a few ecodriving tips. See guys, there are those women out there.

As I was driving my lovely wife home from dinner last night she though it was cute to mention "Did you know your car will actually do 80MPH?". I had forgotten she borrowed it earlier this week to go buy shoes while I had her car.
For the record I had no idea my car would go this fast. Informative and cute this one is.
