Think like an electron. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=chaos+theory

Your grid is a web of nodes that add or subtract on seemingly random schedule. The result is standing waves that can sweep back and forth over the conductors.

Batteries contribute add or subtract at a micro-second rate. Software defined electricity manipulates the power factor. Different approaches.

I power factor corrected all my air compressors and welders.
Oh man they are getting screwed royally.
I pay 7 cents a kwh for the base rate and my entire bill divided by total consumption is usually between 9 and 10 cents.

A lot of these places trying to save the world are creating energy poverty with cheap dirty power, like germany.
Looks like France has the right idea. Let's all be more like France in this one instance.

US=15.75¢/kWh is three times what I pay as a residential customer.

Holocene solar activity imprint on centennial‐ to multidecadal‐scale hydroclimatic oscillations in arid central Asia

Abstract
Numerous studies have been conducted on the Holocene climatic evolution of arid central Asia (ACA) using various geological proxies. However, the quality of the age control and the temporal resolution of the proxy records used make it difficult to characterize hydroclimatic changes on centennial‐ to multi‐decadal timescales. Here, we present a stalagmite δ18O record from Baluk cave in Xinjiang, NW China, in ACA, which has an average 22.8‐yr resolution and provides a record of inferred hydroclimatic changes from 8.4 to 2.7 ka.
...and the results of spectral analysis suggest the presence of the Eddy (~1080 yr), de Vries (~205 yr) and Gleissberg (~88‐102 yrs) cycles. This indicates a linkage between solar activity and hydroclimatic changes in ACA on centennial‐ to multi‐decadal scales during the Holocene. We suggest that the influence of solar activity on hydroclimatic changes in ACA occurs via its effects on North Atlantic sea surface temperature (SST), North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), northern high‐latitude regional temperatures, and via direct heating. The relationship suggests that solar activity may play an important role in determining future hydroclimatic changes in ACA.
They are pulling data on Saharasia out of stalagtites in a cave in the Taklamakan.

And my favorite: https://arxiv.org/pdf/1902.05959.pdf Turns out they don't need Dark Matter, because it was Baryons the whole time.

- Have you seen the source of that piece of data?

https://hornsdalepowerreserve.com.au/ went live December 1 2017.
Looking at the actual stats the electricity price hovers around $100/MWh or $0.10/kWh.

Australian dollars.

If it retails for about 800% more (if that is true at all, which I very much doubt) then that isn't the systems fault.

Of course.

Seems in line with other developed countries that have no large energy reserves.

Some fact checking in this specific case, though monitoring the period before the HPR came online:
FactCheck: does South Australia have the 'highest energy prices' in the nation and 'the least reliable grid'?
Quote:
Increased renewable energy generation may have contributed to decisions for some power plants to close [causing power delivery shortage and raising electricity prices]. But so would other factors – such the A$400 million safety upgrade required for the Hazelwood power plant to have stayed open.

As mentioned above, other factors such as gas prices and competition issues have also contributed to increases in wholesale electricity prices. And as shown below, these are not confined to South Australia.

Electricity futures prices for 2017–18. ACCC 2017, Retail Electricity Pricing Inquiry, Preliminary report (page 56)

Gas prices are particularly important in the South Australian context, which is the most gas-dependent region in the National Electricity Market.
...
South Australia has the highest retail electricity prices in Australia – but not in the world.

An argument could be made for South Australia being the least reliable system in the National Energy Market .. [b]ut ... the vast majority of these were caused by storms and other technical issues – not by renewables.
So - electricity in South Australia is expensive in no small part due to the need to keep Hazelwood, one of the worst polluting plants in the world, running and safe... and gas prices.

Where the base rate is 7 cents a kwh it probably will never be economy viable.
If you are paying 5 times that then pretty much anything is viable.
