So we all stop and watch as nothing pulls out.

What is worse is that the detectors don't let the lights change back until they think everything is clear. Another butterfly parps and we wait longer - so I can't even time the light.

This is in Midlothian in Scotland. The only place that has a bus lane so short that a bus could not physically park in it.

Nnngaaa.
Thats the Sherrifhall one then?

It was pitched as "Edinburgh's new Park and ride"

So tehy built it in Midlthian, and on the "Wrong side of the roundabout" for people from Midlothian/Borders to use.

Its always Empty

Close, its the Straiton one. Are you stalking me ?

I decided to maybe ask someone to check it. So I went on the website and it pointed me at the city council. So I emailed Clarence (our road bodging lion mascott) who pointed me back to Midlothian, at which point I give up.

Why ?

Well when you have a local authority who think it is fine to make a bus lane so short a bus can't even stop in it, I doubt they would listen to reason on this issue much.

PS - Rumour control has it that Sherrifhall was supposed to be removed about a decade or go and replaced with a proper junction and flyover. Imagine that - no lights, no queues, convenience for everyone. Dobbies were going to help pay for it in return for being allowed to expand.

Midlothian said no.

Would it mean a hillclimb for cyclists and pedestrians?

There are cycle lanes on the roundabout just now (you can see it here) but you wouldn't risk it.

As I understood it the plan was to put the main road onto a flyover and the side roads onto a seperate roundabout slightly lower down. Bikes are banned from the A720 anyway.

I think 'Third' is huge underestimate, Beirut and the more remote parts of Afghanistan have better roads than Scotland at the moment. See my wheels.

Steady on. I have been known to utter the odd "Gosh", but my accent is closer to the housekeeper in Frasier - not that I have ever watched it.

I worked and lived in Mid for a couple of years- not stalking you, just know the area!

As for the roads being in poor repair.. Try Glasgow- its like "spot the tarmac" over there
