It's been terribly cold and unusually snowy/icy this year. We've not been much above 40 F in a month or so. At least STL didn't get the nasty snow my Tulsa, OK and SW MO friends got.

That said, fuel economy has been slipping. I KNOW I'm killing my gas mileage on my 5-10 minute commute to school. Not enough time to warm up. Too cold to bicycle. I do, however, have the opportunity to increase FE when I visit my fiance on the other side of the city, not that that's the main reason to drive over there.

I think I need to put the lower grill block back on!

I decided to fill-up on ethanol free gas for the first time and I just filled up again with E0. I set a new personal best of 53.76 MPG. My previous personal record was 51.6 MPG and that was in the summer with regular Chevron E10 and a max speed of 50 MPH. I'm going to keep filling up for a couple tanks to verify the results of switching to E0 but so far it looks like I've gained 10 MPG by using E0.

I'd like to thank Ethanol-free gas stations in the U.S. and Canada for helping me find 2 E0 gas stations in my area.

Adam

Avg on my SG2 registers over 65 for the journey home on Friday - which is a record. Some hope for this tank maybe.

I can pretty much thank this forum and all the threads/tips I've read in the last week-
40psi/tire pressure instead of stock 35- cleaned the air filter- and removed my lead foot- basically i went from just driving to thinking about what i am doing, when i will be stopping and such and man what a change

I decided to increase my threshold for neutral coasting. It used to be around 15, maybe 20mph. Yesterday I was engine braking in 4th at around 40mph. I got down to 35, and then decided to go directly to neutral. The extra distance was great. I made it all the way to a light (long, fresh red) - a distance I only made one other time.

I realize this is a very basic technique on these message boards, but using neutral so early is still uncommon to me. My mechanic said it's not a problem, and that was the extra reassurance I needed.

Next fill will probably be next week at the earliest, and I'm excited to see if my increased use of neutral shows measurable gains.

With the record Snowfall we have had and terrible cold weather I have been doing terrible in my miles. So I only drive when absolutely necessary working from home has its advantages. Last fill up was 1/10/11 and I still have over 3/4 of a tank 30 gallon tank. I hope to make it to 3/10/11 before I need need to stop and fill up again.

Too bad there wasn't a chart to show the ultimate in economy by not driving if you don't have to

We had our first warm day here in a long time yesterday so I rode my Motorcycle. I plan of using the Bike more and more this coming year.

Just had my worst tank since I started hypermiling. 34 mpg. Uggh, but I have to keep it in perspective. A year ago this time of year I was getting 26-27mpg and until this year, I'd never topped 34mpg in the car ever.

Still, it's frustrating to reverse such a great trend thanks to ol' man winter. Looking at the extended forecast, this tank could be much, much better.

It'll be even greater when you start from 40

It doesn't feel natural when you're used to using engine braking / DFCO.
