What you described is common had it happen to my truck once this year and my neighbor asked me for help his terminals were loose and a friend was stuck they had a lot of corrosion. I hope it is that easy of a fix for ya.
Thanks, that's probably it. At 207K Miles, I know this stuff is bound to happen, but I hate getting stuck.

My mechanic couldn't recreate the problem, so I am going to monitor it. This will effect my turn-off-engine at light strategy. I will limit it to safe/flat/low-density traffic for awhile. When it happened it was the perfect time for it. No one behind me at a quiet light. I was up and running in under 5 minutes.

Yeeha! Was able to achieve ~63 MPG for the day (commute round trip) yesterday, according to the Scangauge! Helped to be over 80MPG on the way to work and over 50MPG back home... getting better than 50MPG uphill from work to home is pretty rare.

Definitely noticed a difference after removing the mudflaps (4 little air brakes, obviously!) and folding in the passenger mirror.

Some good coasting today. Managed to keep moving in traffic where many others were already stopped. Although I prefer the middle lane (nobody turning into a driveway at the last minute), the right gives me the luxury of longer coasts when traffic is light and there are no other drivers behind me. Otherwise I take the middle and try to be a little more moderate.

I'm hoping to see in excess of 23mpg when I fill up next.

Did winter time test run to see what the Yaris would do at the posted speed in winter driving conditions; -15 to +5C snow and ice on roads windy; mostly head winds and cross winds. The results are 751 miles / 19.28 gallons = 38.95mpg, 56mph average speed, 13.4hrs run time. The posted speed where 110km/hr mostly and some at 100km/hr and the least amount where a 90km/hr. There where the occasional stop signs and traffic lights in the small towns I passed through. Mostly on crues control. no EOC although big hills always got coasting in neutral engine at idle. and still 21.7% above EPA. I did this to have a base line for the next searies of mods because my plan is to get to better than 50mpg at posted speed in the winter and better than 60mpg at posted speed in the summer.

Interesting numbers.

One advantage to driving as much as you do is you face proportionately less of the "warm up" hit to your overall fuel consumption compared to someone who does a lot of short trips with a cold drivetrain.

We had a winter storm in Montreal yesterday and it killed my mileage. Only managed 38 MPG on my morning commute and 46 MPG on the way back home. Compare those numbers to the usual 50 MPG in both directions. Tank is currently at 43.3 MPG. I hope to recover for the rest of the tank.

I read about your storm. I'm on the east coast (N.S.) for an extended visit at the moment. Spring conditions here! :P

Lucky you ! They are forecasting another snow dump close to 15 cm by the end of this week. Let's hope it's a bad weather forecast..meaning NO snow !

Reasonably decent weather here in NorCal too...

Averaged over 60MPG over the past 3 days with the Jetta. Record streak for me, and today is looking promising too... over 92MPG for the commute to work, which is a record for my "to work" commute...!!

Removing the mud flaps made more of a difference than I expected!
