Here in New Zealand petrol/gas prices are 2.2 dollar per liter that is about 8,3 dollar per gallon, so you guys are lucky it is still so cheap in the US compared to us here.
I dont often say something here , but always look forward to the e-magazine with its great ideas and questions and answers.
Thanx and Greetings Eddie.

Wishing for better MPG
I just finished an engine rebuild on my 99 Saturn SW2. I thought about a newer car before doing the rebuild, but there is almost nothing out there with better fuel economy than the Saturn, so I decided on the rebuild. My SW2 averages about 35 in everyday driving and 40 mpg on the highway if I don't push it too hard, so it just made sense to keep it. I've driven a couple of small cars in France that I would love to buy, but of course we can't get them in the U.S.
And by the way, I think we will see increased gas prices. How high? I don't know, but I think it's inevitable.

Saturn SL2
I had a 98 Saturn SL2 that I bought in 2003 and sold in 2011.
So easy to work on and really never needed much work.
Great gas mileage to boot! Considering the very low maintenance needs, gas milage and low insurance I once calculated the cost of ownership at less than 20 cents per mile for over 150,000 miles that I owned it, including gas & oil, tires and maintenance, insurance and the purchase price.
The plastic body panels never had any rust or any paint problems, she shined like new the day I sold her with 230,000 miles on her odometer.
Wish I had have kept that car.

I understand
I know how you feel . Unless I can find a really good deal on a Prius or a Nissan Leaf, I'll just keep driving the Saturn. My wife has a Saturn SC1 she bought new in 1996!

I haven’t been around quite as long as some of our peeps, about seven years. I joined at the tail end of the last gas crisis, just before I started driving.

Manufacturers will build what sells. But it seems that a lot of people out there dont care about fuel economy. One look down the highway up here and you'll see it dominated with pickups and SUV's.
But I think its gonna take another gas/crude crisis to wake people back up again.

I was really hoping the truck and SUV fad was limited to the US, half or more vehicles on the roads down here in Georgia are trucks and SUVs. I just don’t see the appeal. It’s kind of ironic that people are getting on their high chairs to demand everyone goes electric, and they haven’t even convinced people to cut their consumption in half by driving cars.

I bet whatever discussion there is of DIY efficiency mods to EV's are happening on those vehicle-specific forums. They're probably way more active than EM is.

Lurking is a lot easier than getting out in the street and working on the underbody paneling.. but don't count me out! Every mile I drive, I'm thinking how to reduce drag and increase efficiency. I'm glad that Ecomodder is here to stay.
Thank you guys for keeping this site alive and happy 12th birthday!

That's what I would do!
I was very excited a couple of years ago to see that the random number generator I use to pick the winners drew my own post for the grand prize. So excited... then sad to have to re-draw.

From what I've seen, there is minimal discussion and lots of bad ideas on other forums.
I was on a Jeep forum where people insisted the best thing you could do to improve fuel economy was to install a cold air intake and a high flow air filter.
The people serious about improving their economy regardless of what they drive will find their way here, especially since I link to here all the time.

I'm a proud lurker!😊
Still driving my Insight, and keeping the Insights I bought for my kids going.
Someday they'll buy their own car ( as in their next vehicle, then I'll reclaim the Insights for mine), that's when I'll see if my eco-influence worked!
Thanks for the site, please keep it going!
