Its actually amazing at how many sub $5000 car like objects are available in china, sadly it you were to bring one over it would have to be an NEV, like the Miles ZX40 my father drives.

They don't have to sell them, you can buy anything nowadays and pit it in a container and send it over. Unless the government bans them for registration and on road use like they did the little pickups they used to allow. I don't think there are many 3 wheel reverse trikes from China yet. I think you are thinking small 4 wheeler which have to meet all car standards or be off road only. The 3 wheel being a motorcycle is the loophole I am referring to. |

You may be able to bring one over but even that is considered as illegal by the government because anything considered a car has specific Reagan era gray market laws, requiring destruction after a specific period of time.
Furthermore you could not register it in the US without lots of horrifying $$$ and interaction with legal certification authorities. |

Right, IF we were talking 4 wheels. IF China or India wanted to do a 3 wheeler it would be as easy as any of the other motorcycles that currently come from China or India. What is being said is, it is surprising China hasn't jumped to the Elio vacuum and made something similar. Maybe they bought the promises as well and thought they couldn't beat the $7000 by much if any, or like I pointed out as soon as they did it w/o an American version already on the market, the DOT would move to reclassify 3 wheelers as cars.

Actually motorcycles from overseas aren't all that easy. For example, if I bring one in I won't be able to use it on road, my state makes it painful without a proper title.
You really need some type of business presence to sell any foreign roadgoing product, even if its a set of motivated dealers getting the paperwork done.
