I probably knew at some point, but had forgotten.

What I'd like to see is a flat four implementation of a Scuderi Cycle engine. Two cylinders running as a single stage air compressor, feeding a 120PSI tank, feeding two cylinders that run on gas or compressed air.

All needed would be a custom [roller bearing] crank and camshaft, and the induction plumbing.

Well, sort of... On a sidenote, nowadays Australian light-sport aircraft maker Jabiru offers a flat-8 which reminds a lot the VW design, yet that's a proprietary Jabiru engine.
