Most likely it's a replica, even though there were some rumors about German expatriates taking Beetle prototypes to other countries on their luggage.

There's a new Black Current

Four battery packs, four inverters and four motors. Twelve orange cables to melt. 6500hp.

Call it 5 million watts. Above 1Kv at +1200 amps a corner or 500 v @2400 amps for perhaps 10 seconds total including burnout. Ugly but do able if you're BNSF or UP.

Won't melt the battery wiring, insulation during coast definitely gets hot but within the specs for some silicones, cooling the motors must be a nightmare, batteries must be close to self ignition, compressed Co2 liquid discharge cooling? Must be a metal cover battery box shaped like a new VW. Teensie tires, however. Makes me suspicious of power dissipating claims.

really long charge time? Can't think of anywhere I worked that used the output of a whole substation.

IIRC they assert 70 Coulomb of energy transfer.

That would be 0.019444444444 amp hours an LED uses more power.

Firstly, is 70C correct? I didn't go back to look.

Energy Efficiency
While the coulombic efficiency of lithium-ion is normally better than 99 percent, the energy efficiency of the same battery has a lower number and relates to the charge and discharge C-rate. With a 20-hour charge rate of 0.05C, the energy efficiency is a high 99 percent. This drops to about 97 percent at 0.5C and decreases further at 1C. In the real world, the Tesla Roadster is said to have an energy efficiency of 86 percent. Ultra-fast charging on newer EVs will have a negative effect on energy efficiency, as well as the battery life.

In the afternoon I saw that black Karmann-Ghia convertible once again, too bad I wasn't quick enough to take at least one picture...

A 70c discharge rate would do it but you still need a pack that has about 1600 amp rating and currently bigger than the bug it would be in. I remain skeptical. Also kinda needs a house sized cooling system for either cycle
