all cars have lottsa mounting points

all cars have many mounting points for bellypans
look for the round rubber / plastic plugs that fill the holes that were needed for the jigs that lined up under body floor parts during the assembly of the car .

stick a bolt / stud / threaded rod with 2 large washers and nut in the hole
whalla
a very secure , strong , serviceable , mounting point .
cheap
easy

steel beams
the kind that replace 2 x 4 s in construction are very light and very stiff when screwed or welded together and could easily make up ribs or frame work of a belly pan , or just use the steel and nothing else , trim to fit .
very cheaply

you can build one yourself
stop typing on the internet

get under the car
and
do it

If I can do it myself, why would I buy a kit?

hummmmm.......I believe the thread/conversation was the marketablility of mass producing a 'universal belly pan'

not about him doing his own.

I think that some times 'we' fail to actually read all of the thread and assume the op is saying something he is not actually saying.

while the first part was helpful concerning 'mounting points' the last little dig was inappropriate.....

*If you sell one to Tony Soprano under false pretenses ,or market through the US Mail,........... you know what Soprano will do,and The I.C.C. has very strict regulations covering mail fraud across state lines. You would have to be extremely careful about any language you applied in marketing.Car magazines as well as Consumer Report would purchase one, install it,test it,and publish their results. They all have extremely expensive, and accurate data acquisition equipment as well as data reduction software. You could never claim any result which wouldn't show up in testing.Unless your a millionaire right now,or have access to capital, you wouldn't be able to afford the scientific testing to know what you can legally claim.
*As CAFE standards are increased, vehicle undersides will become smoother and smoother.
--------- Vehicles will respond less and less to 'mods.'
--------- At some point everything will be done by the factory.
--------- Some present day vehicles are so good right now that they'd show little if any benefit from a 'kit.'
--------- Coroplast is already quite popular and 'free' to modders, and there would be no incentive to 'purchase' a kit.
--------- Would-be 'modders' would 'find' EcoModder.com online and find out pretty quick that if they're interested in a belly pan, they can fabricate one themselves out of discarded material.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm just playing Devil's advocate. You can serve an existing market, but it's very difficult to create a market.

aerohead,
All good points.

I think that the 'oh...it's free, Ill do it myself' arguement is the weakest. There will always be consumers who will buy a kit even if there is a parallel 'free' product.
Your point about the marketing claims is right on....however.....look at all the unicorn poop that has wild claims!

No kidding. 10% would be a huge change, but most people's mileage varies more than that, from tank to tank.

And compared to Unicorn claims, 10% wouldn't even blow up your skirt.

Mine doesn't, except on road trips.

Be willing to bet most folks' mileage on this site doesn't. Mine sure doesn't, but then again...

I just wanted to note that a perforated surface is very aerodynamic provided you use it to suck off the boundary layer.
