1 Gallon per run less Fuel used by Nat'l Hot Rod Assoc Top Fuel and Funney Cars
Yes, not a misprint....now that NHRA has switched to 1000' racing instead of 1320' for their Top Fuel and Funny Cars that use nitromethane each team is burning about a gallon of fuel less per pass. Yeah, instead of 12-13 gallons per 1/4 mile they are getting 11-12 gallons per 1000' pass. It takes a lot of fuel to run a near 8000 hp motor of only 500 cubic inches down the 1/4...they were running over 330 mph, now they are running over 310!

Dude, saying that here is akin to runing into your neighborhood martial arts studio and yelling "Ninja sissies!" from the top of your lungs! LOL
I was at Sonoma this weekend... 1000ft racing was just as exciting as 1320. I did carpool

ARGH......they cant do that can they!?!?! What government agency told them that was ok????
A quarter mile time is based on a quarter mile of distance....not 1000'! Too much math involved figuring out what your true 1/4 mile time would be. I can just see it now....after every run, pocket calculators spring forth to get accurate times

If everyone is running 1000 foot runs, there doesn't need to be any conversion. Also, if you did want to compare, you can use your own 1000 foot time from your slip. No math needed :-)

They immediately went to 1000' racing after Scott Kalitta was killed....he had an engine explosion near the finish line and the chutes did not (possibly burned too bad too quickly) deploy and he had a horrific crash AFTER the shut down area....bad place for a cement wall! Some of the shut down areas are 1/4 of a mile and have sand traps and or netting after that....even if he held a 240 mph average speed after the explosion there would have been only 3.75 seconds left before he met that wall. They are still running over 300 mph now at 1000' and I might be dumb, but I know I am smarter than most people, the same engine explosion on the same track would only give him maybe another 1 second to get stopped.
A more intelligent precaution would be more safety net useage like on aircraft carriers.

They are saving about $30 per pass on fuel.....I posted this because it is a savings....just like...why did I buy a Geo Metro???? Because using my drag raced 32.8 mpg SRT4 285 hp Neon is great fun as a delivery vehicle, but the Geo costs half as much on fuel. Just consider this a radical form of EOC. They hit 100 mph in under a second and when they pop a blower after taking off they still can coast the distance in under 10 seconds at maybe 50 mph.

I was having fun with you... sorry it came across wrong. I get why you posted, just thought it was ironic in my weird sence of humor way. I'm not one of them, but many folks see motorsports as a needless waste of fossil fuels.
The fact is you and I are drag racing brothers... Like yourself, I have a few 11 and 10 second laps down the 1320... I'll bet only one of us has ever crewed on a top fuel car?

I know you were....the problem with typed words instead of face to face is that a grin can't be detected.
You are correct, only one of us has crewed...I don't do anything on my cars, my sponsors do...I CAN change a battery, plug wires, dist cap, and rotor. I am REALLy good at wt reduction on my cars...my main one is a stock 2.5 Chrsler powered 84 Horizon that was @ 2350 lbs new and has been down to 1700...but now up to 1810 since it is street driven.
A VERY old web site out there can be found by a Google search of Angelo Taylor Racing. The only car I still have is Matchbox...267,000+ miles now!
Got pics of John Force in and by it..a pic of Carroll Shelby in front of another car I used to own.

Steve Chrisman, T/F 700 at the 2005 Autolite Natls. at Somona. My experience with crewing on a friends TAD team helped land me land the one-race gig on the Top Fuel Dragster. Steve had me doing half of the top-end. They are the first and only TF team to run a sub 5 second pass without clutch management (without a clutch cannon and timers, basically a TAD clutch). Steve builds and sells rear ends to the top fuel funnycar teams, and runs a few races/year for his "Disneyland E-Ticket Ride" he calls it.
I have been drag racing my own cars for about 12 years, won two NASA VW championships, been on ESPN and the cover boy for a car mag <my 15 minutes of fame, LOL> but I'm parked at the moment (out of dough, don't cha-know). I build my own engines, do everything but paint and transmissions. My friends sold their TAD a few years ago, which I also crewed on for maybe 15 events over the years.
I've still got my fingers in racing, I'm building a couple engines right now, and still have all my race equipment. I also do a little writting, I just submitted a short 400 word article promoting the upcoming Louie Vermiel Classis USAC show at Calistoga (I know it wil get published, I have the inside track with the editor)
