I'm definatly interested. A discounted entry fee would be better motivation to go. $50 for bragging rights is a bit steep for me.
So let me see if I understand the classes right. My car, epa combined of 25, would fall in the 26 and under modified class. Is this correct? or because Escorts are no longer in production would it fall in the Other catagory?

You would fall in the "other" category.
I see the fee as a way to support the event so it comes back year after year.

Is there a lot going on after the competition?
I can probably make it out there, but it's unlikely for me to be there before noon.

Since the "Insight" is back in production, I suppose I'll be competing in the 45-56mpg (Modified) category, while someone in a 2010 Pontiac Vibe will be in Other because their car is out of production.
*shrug*
No matter how many classes they divide us into, it'll still be fun.

Robbiewt: the exhibition in the afternoon is fun. Worth going if you're in the neighbourhood.
---
Heard back from the organizers, re the registration fee. There are some options.
(FYI, I agree with Tasdrouille - it's worth supporting the event. They put a lot of effort into it.)
Quote:
We did some figuring based on this years expenses because the entry fee includes 2 Tee-shirts, 2 lunches, insurance costs, and a bit towards trophy expense.
The wiggle room we have is : We could eliminate the 2 Tee-shirts and 2 lunches. The charge would then be $25 per car.
If they wanted 1 Tee-shirt then it would be $35 per car..
Hope this helps, we really don't make any money on this !

Thanks for the update Metro, that definatly helps. I didn't realize that T-shirts and all that other stuff was included. I understand that it can cost quite a bit to put on an event like this. I'm just cheap and had a bit of sticker shock
Kinda wondering why the "other" catagory for out of production vehicles? Are there a lot of new cars entering? Do newer cars have such a big advantage over older or vise-versa? Just wondering why the semingly random split?

They are either not too strict about that rule or they don't know much about modern car production history... I bet they would class an escort with everyone else without a blink. They classed McTimson's tercel in the regular category although the tercel went out of production in '99. Even if you made the argument that the Echo is a continuation of the tercel line, the echo went out of production in '05. I think they should class cars that have been out of production for a set number of years... like 25. It's even difficult to make a foreign class because as we know there's no difference between some USDM cars and "foreign cars". For example a metro vs. Darin's firefly, which we all know is the same car, was classed in the out of production category, even though one could argue that the metro was in production later than the tercel. Guess it's just up to you to figure out who you're competing against and whether or not placing matters to you when considering whether to argue about what class to be placed in.

I'm entered and will def be there if I can get my million bits of car back into one piece by then.
And I'll certainly be in the "other" category --
