Great job, PaleMelanesian! Both with your health and with your fuel economy.

Actually personally I plan to average 7.6 L/100km and assume my wife who has the car half the time will continue to do 9.6 L/100km, which is still 11% better than US EPA Combined.

I only managed to drop my fuel use down to 9.3 L/100km or 25.3 US MPG, but then at the end of August I traded the car in for a 2012 Mazda 3 Skyactiv 6 speed manual and averaged 7.1 L/100km (33 MPG) in that to the end of the year. I miss the space of the Mazda 5 but I figured we should just drive the most fuel efficient vehicle that works for us then rent a minivan for $8/hour through a car sharing program when we need one -- gas and insurance included.

The total effect here is not nearly mpg related as it is total miles put on my vehicles, and thusly my annual fuel usage is way down! So, in 2010 I traveled 22,000 miles (448 gallons) in the Prius, to 12,000 miles (227 gallons) used in 2011.
The new job does put me in EV range and I'm looking to slowly gather parts for a conversion.
In the mean time I have the Prius' PHEV working and use it for commuting. My wife is now driving the Paseo and I'm sure the short commute (3.5 miles one way) is going to murder the mileage. But, it doens't use much fuel, so I'm more than happy.
As I mentioned in my last post, my home (especially now) uses vastly more energy than my vehicles. So, my main focus is now there to reduce energy usage.

I didn't really set any goals per say, but the overall is looking great.
2010
22,000 miles
448 gallons
49.1 mpg
2011
12,127 miles
237 gallons
51.0 mpg
2012
8948 miles
161 gallons
55.4 mpg
A fuel usage reduction of 32% is a pretty darn good achievement IMO. This includes both of my Prius' fuel usage btw (was in an accident and replace my old one with another old one).
Still gotta get the PHEV working flawlessly though...

My 2012 goal would be 32 mpg. Another, more challenging goal would be the whole year on 12 tanks (one/month). I filled up 7 times in the last 6 months.
My stretch, stretch goal is to get an average of 36 mpg (equal to the combined EPA rating of a Smart Car)--that's probably still a ways to go for me, though.

I did pretty good this year--far better than what I'd hoped.
2012 Totals:
Total Fills = 11
Total Miles = 14,637.9 miles
Total Fuel Used = 384.759 gallons
Average Mileage = 38.04 mpg
Best Tank = 1,465.2 miles on 35 gallons (47.01 mpg)
Fuel Cost per Mile = 8.55 cents/mile
2013 Goals:
Total Fills <= 10
Average Mileage >= 41 mpg
Best Tank >= 50 mpg
On a personal note, like most people I have the opposite problem as Pale. Duing 2012 I lost 85 lbs. I'd like to do at least that again in 2013 to put me closer to the "healtly" BMI range.

Wow! That didn't happen by accident. That took a LOT of work and dedication. I'm seriously impressed. Good work!

In my car, you would actually feel better accelerations with 85 lbs less.

Congratulations! As someone who lost ~45 lbs, I can understand what that's like. I will say that BMI is an okay guideline, but take it with a grain of salt. It's even less accurate than an EPA rating in some cases, IE Arnold Schwarzenegger would have been considered morbidly obese.

Very true. That's why I put "healty" in quotes. I think body fat % is probably a better metric. I started my journey in September of 2011 when I weighed 400 lbs (I'm 6'1" tall) & >45% body fat--so I had a lot to lose no matter what metric you use. I'm about 305 lbs now and about 35% body fat. So losing another 85 lbs is still very reasonable.

Wow, about 1/2 of mine. Which ain't bad in itself, as the "average" CTD (auto, 4WD) is around 26 cpm.
