I'm afraid nothing can be reasonably concluded from this. Too. Many. Variables.

The only nuisance variable that's been controlled for is placebo effect on the operator.

Maybe I misunderstood what you were saying. I though you were reporting something like "the general concensus among acetone users is that any vehicle can expect about a 3 MPG gain". I was saying that, as a blanket statement, would have been silly.

I tried the acetone thing in my 95 accord V6 (which I no longer have). I saw an increase of about 4 mpg using 2oz per tank (I think it was 15 gallons).

Then I ran out of acetone. I maintained the mpg's I had gained for several weeks.

My theory of acetone? It cleans your fuel injectors and keeps them clean. Doesn't improve fuel burn up or help gas vaporize any better.

Thats my theory, and I'm sticking to it will someone can prove for sure that I am wrong.

Definately not a blanket statement. I've had several occasions where I'll barely gain 1 mpg,(winter gas makes acetone pretty much useless) Then sometimes I'll hit it just right and get 3 to even 5 mpg's, but that's a good stroke of luck, mixture and gas quality. I am not a big proponent or opponent of acetone, all I do is try these things and see what they yield. So far acetone has helped, and in rare occasions, hurt my mileage. (don't overmix!)

Apologies. My misunderstanding.

I'm also not an acetone proponent/opponent. It would be great to see a proper test done, but it hasn't happened yet that I know of. (And I'm not going to be the one to do it! )

This is one of the things I don't understand. Why does it work sometimes and not others. Why does it do 1 mpg gain and a 3 mpg gain other times. This would seem to follow the static that you see from tank to tank testing. Look at gaslogs everyone of them will vary 6-10% if you are a very consitant driver more if not.

When people start testing acetone it's because they are trying to save gas in the first place that's why they are looking into. This with changing all kinds of things on the car and driver. I don't think any additive can be tested tank to tank.

All I know is at one station near me, if I dope up the tank I can make gains, whereas, if I dope up at another station nearby, I never gain a mile. I think it has something to do with the quality processing of the fuel they put in the tanks and which refinery it comes from.

A fuel injector spray pattern test before and after a few fuel tanks of acetone would confirm if it's cleaning our parts. Clean components = better mpg's. We'd need someone who is on the fence and has yet to add acetone or a bunch of FI chemicals.
