Sounds and looks like that intake is crazy!

Good work on 48 US mpg round town- damn diesels!

Try the P&G next tank.. I did a tank using DWL (Driving with Load) on the iS and it shaved 45 miles off a full tank- so its worth it from my point of view.

Also, if mainly doing town work, the Glides can be long cos speed is low and aero interference/drage is much lessend from motorway speeds

Thanks for encouragement

I am P&G-ing now, only with E(on) coasting though. Still puzzled as to the overall average as both the OB computer and the SG were showing +5-10 on every trip compared to the last tank and the only time any of them have been under 50 was this morning - a rep in a 407 decided to tailgate

This is also an improvement as going to work (uphill) was never > 50.

What is the technique of DWL, I have it as a minimum MPG and a min speed - maintain the MPG until the speed hits the min and then maintain that, is that correct ?

I do have to maintain some speed on the A720 as it is only 2 lanes.

Still Pondering...

I was disappointed on the last tank as tapped, and I pondered whether to go for a change again.

This appeared on my Autotrader alert

Which has some decent stats for FE:

Quote:
Fuel consumption (urban) 51.4 mpg
Fuel consumption (extra urban) 76.3 mpg
Fuel consumption (combined) 64.2 mpg
although it is a bit, er, slow:

Quote:
0 - 62 mph 16.5 seconds
Top speed 97 mph
Cylinders 4
Valves 16 v
Engine power 75 bhp
Engine torque 140 lbs/ft
But "chippable".

It also has the advantage of being bike friendly whereas Helga aint and I'd like to get A Jnr out more in the summer. I will have to get a black and white cat though, and permanently tune the radio into Radio 2.

And then of course Helga does 78 AVG-IMP on the home trip last night

And there is the Paris trip to pay for, although that is under budget and I have two cars to sell...

The Cubo can be had with CNG.
Still a fossil fuel, but as clean as it gets.

You do know you've posted up a FIAT, and a FIAT VAN at that?

I'd re check the links in your post...

Even a Kangoo would be preferable to this.. Have you ever actually seen on? I havent..tells you how popular they are

Yeah, but that would be based on the Petrol one which drives really really really really badly.

Found out that the new Kia Picanto and its related Hyundai i10 can be had with stop-start - which would suit me as I drive a lot in traffic - and also an intelligent alternator system which switches it off when the battery doesn't need charging and uses regen braking.

The bad side is that this comes on the 1.0 litre 3-pot only on the i10 which is has had a long session with the ugly stick but the nicer looking Picanto only has this on the thirstier 1.25. To illustrate the looks thing, an i10 putting children off their lunches yesterday...

...compared to a Picanto charming birds from the trees.

Both of these can be converted to use LPG but you need to do 16K miles to get it to pay for itself - which would be 4-5 years for me However both are rated at 99g/km which means £0 tax.

Rather cheekily the i10 economy model is called a Blue, which is of course unrelated to Bluemotion or Mercedes Blue etc etc.

Both are very cheap though. Hmmm.

There are 3 in the car park next to the one i use at work, two that snot-green metallic colour and one in bright orange, all privately owned. One owner a little disappointed the others have had few issues.

I take your point though, what is worse is that they are made in Turkey - that well know motoring nation.

Kangoo - hmmm

Yep, 7 years. The old one is not much fun to drive but not bad either - better than the class average at any rate, the new one gets good write ups. If they did the stop-start with the 1.0 then it would be perfect - it is available in other markets of course which is annoying.

EDIT - of course Ireland is not that far and they drive on the correct side as well...

Looking at Parkers if I trade in both Skodas then a new-ish one is reachable. I usually avoid new though like the plague, but if they do a decent deal then maybe.

Dont buy new! its the work of the devil!

As for the Kangoo- Trust the French to build something entertaining to drive!

I'd imagine something like a 12-18 month one would be the ticket- there's bound to be a few kicking about from the rental market (they look like superb "Group A" or sub compact cars)

Speaking from Long experience, and having seen a lot of Fiats through auctions/hire places, just dont!
