whats the minimum on the freeway portion?
I didn't see a minimum, if I remember right. I'd have to check ORC for the legal, but it is mostly downhill. I am thinkimg EOC won't work, though. Probably best to stay in second or third gear, and make sure you accelerate. I think that's the law...lol

I hope it's clear I am kidding! I think it is a decent over all route. Just enjoying the car, mileage was above highway for me. So more efficient vehicles and more heavily modified cars should have an easy time, too.

I have to get a few things done before The 20th! CAI, rear valance, and special air dams for the trip. That kill switch idea really has me thinking, too.

I was running some math and .1 gal is a severe penalty for cars that get higher gas mileage. Taken to extremes I could bring a semi that gets 4 mpg and come in 15 minutes late and it knocks down my percentage above EPA by only a bit.

With a little more calculation I figured out that taking off the % over directly affects both equally. Every minute deducting 2% off your epa overage works out better. Maybe 3% to shun over-timing it for even more gain. 2% means you need 3-4 mpg more to cancel 5 minute penalty. Even if the percentage penalty is set higher, I think it makes way more sense than gallon based penalties.

And can you list the date clearly in the first post? I know it's around, but it'd be much more clear with it listed with the other links and info. Thanks!

Example: Car A achieves 58% over epa. 5 minutes late, deduct 2% per minute. Now Car A has an official 48% over epa for ranking in the competition.

Why not let people try for the best MPG they can get and let them choose the time they want to take. its more real world, how much sleep do you want to get?

Or set an end time of an hour and let people start when they feel like it and all just meet up at 2pm or so to check in?

Awesome!
The only way I can make this is if the NHL does lockout the players this season. I have a planned road game this weekend. Tentatively.
I've not, everyone can follow in my massive aero wake and enjoy even better mileage.

I kind of like the idea of nearly matching google maps time. Show what's possible within "normal" boundaries. Not how much can you get on a one-time gliding death crawl with the hazards on for a fuel economy competition.

People always say better gas mileage (with driving technique) is not for them. They might beat google maps by a minute or two, this shows how much is possible showing up a minute or two later than that time.

"normal" is all up to the driver is it not?

my normal is all up to traffic, its the difference between constantly driving at 52mph 55 limit with a tailgater, 50-60 p&g if no traffic for a decent distance, and 40-60 p&g if no1 behind me at all along with a coast to stop for stop signs

I like all the input, but I think I am going to stick with the current goals. I understand the views, amd will expand more later.
