Scientific tolerance killed the monster known as the climate change post.
The more clearly doomed the concept man driven climate change became the more desperate some people got.
Others became more smug.

This thread will go down as well if things go on like that.

Can we still talk in here? This isn't about politics it's about the news reporting on stuff. I've been going to WION for news. Palki Sharma seems to give straight news with no editorial varnish. Then I find this:
https://youtu.be/YhX9iu_Q95U
It's like a parody short course on how the media slants the news. But in the comments someone points out the 2014 Tide Pod challenge. Explains a lot?
A continuing benefit is quarantine songs. Although this one is an [out-dated] ad:
I was looking something up and found this:
Quote:
Campbell's law
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Campbell's law is an adage developed by Donald T. Campbell, a psychologist and social scientist who often wrote about research methodology, which states:
"The more any quantitative social indicator is used for social decision-making, the more subject it will be to corruption pressures and the more apt it will be to distort and corrupt the social processes it is intended to monitor."
|
Also explains a lot. Like, Quantum Physics.
edit:
We are reminded Oregon has a Democrat governor:

www.kgw.com: Oregon Country Fair, iconic counterculture event, upended for first time in 50 years by coronavirus

Oregon Country Fair, iconic counterculture event, upended for first time in 50 years by coronavirus
The Oregon Country Fair, held each summer outside Eugene for five decades, is all but certain not to happen this year.
One of the West Coast’s pre-eminent and longest running counterculture festivals has been upended because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Oregon Country Fair, held each summer outside Eugene for five decades, is all but certain not to happen this year, Executive Director Wally Bomgaars said in a letter published this week.

People have gathered there for 11, 050 years. There was a prior hiatus Let's hope it survives into the Golden Age.

From your link:
On Friday, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown signed an executive order to extend the state of emergency for another 60 days, keeping Oregonians stuck in their homes until July 6.
The underlined section is true. The bold section is false. Governor Brown did not extended the stay-at-home order until July 6th.
If you have been following Oregon news the past week the talk has been about Brown's 3 phased plan to reopen the state and sent people back to work. The final plan is due next week.
Oregon's phase 1 includes opening restaurants, bars, breweries, brewpubs, wineries and tasting rooms can reopen. That doesn't sound like being stuck in my home to me.
I fully expect the state of emergency to be extended again past July 6th considering Phase 1 allows gatherings of 10 people, Phase 2 is 50 people, and Phase 3 is basically back to normal with events in the thousands of people. I don't see 20,000 person concerts happening in the Moda Center on July 7th.

I don't get out much. About the only thing I will see that will be a return to normal is when they take up the one-way lanes taped down in the grocery store.
I follow the Lane County page and that's about it. We almost made 2 weeks without a new case, but their were two new ones so the clock is reset.

I'm never up on the gates. Is that the one where TP can't be bought for any price? We've probably got 1 week left, and I've still yet to see TP in any store, though I haven't checked OfficeMax yet.

No, it was posts like these that don't contain any info. You escalated hostility and ignored a request by the mod. While I appreciate your opinion on things, I don't appreciate your contribution to killing the thread.

I refer to the pandemic in general as TPgate. I am just trying to change up things with the name.
One of my exes has been keeping us updated on her Quest for the Holy Buttpaper. People kept saying "Hey, I saw some at this store."
That was useless. It probably sold out within minutes. I kept saying that when I found it, it was right when the store opened.
"I can't do that, I need to work."
"I feel bad that you need to work Saturdays when you are clearly desperate for toilet paper."
I told her where she could find RV paper. Someone explained
Quote:
RV TP is "special" in that it is not quilted or otherwise bound together very well into a sheet. this makes it dissolve in liquids faster.
|
It is more cheaply-made? Why is it vastly more expensive? Quantities?
Of course someone suggested that it was a conspiracy.
How unimaginative.
She seemed to have vast tracts of friends, so I am surprised that nobody said "Hey, I found some and bought a package for you."
I had worse girlfriends, but she was not proactive in her own life.
Insulting people for the sake of being a jerk is never productive.

I prefer WuFlu, or The Rona.
My latest crazy idea on combating the outbreak came while I was mentioning that I'd like to be exposed immediately, because it's likely to happen at some point, and it might as well be now. If 60% of the population must have antibodies for herd immunity, that means most of us will end up being exposed. My next thought was, what if all healthy and youngish people adopted that mentality? What if we took healthy volunteers to purposely expose themselves to The Rona, then quarantine for 2 weeks?
We don't want to achieve 60% herd immunity by exposing the population at random, even though that is the "fairest" way to do it, because the outcomes are suboptimal. At least taking volunteers would be fair in that they have been informed of the risks and accept the consequences.
