the salt is HUGE. You don't really have perspective until you have been there.
if you ask the race directors, they will point you towards a 20 mile loop somewhere out of the way.
or, there is PLENTY of salt to just make your own.
Oh. And BRING AN EASY UP for shade. All of you bring your own. You will see.....

Red, that sounds like a SWEET project . Can't wait to see it. I'm going to incorporate the Vetter-esque rules and make one of the legs be a 70mph, cruise control or foot control, no EOC, just to see where we are against the bikes . Might try that out on the first day as it looks like I'll be shooting for 800 miles or so .

I may do the same for one tank full, on my way to Bonneville, which would be around 540km [336 miles] I am guessing I will consume 3.6 Gal or 13.5 L.
13.5L/5.4 = 2.5L/100km
336m/3.6gal = 94mpg

I guess this will be a good match up to see where I am when September rolls around.
I got the 5th gears and fork out of the ACH(diesel) trans, and am going to try to swap them out tomorrow night after work into the AUG(gasser) trans, dropping from .89 to .75 in 5th.

Remember, you need 57hp @ that engine speed. I.E. if 130mph works out to 4400 RPM in your diesel, you need to make 57hp (or more) at 4400rpm. What's the HP peak of that engine from the factory? I'm guessing around 3200?
So basically, you need to dyno your car

I recognize the car with the yellow headlights. I remember reading a writeup on it a while back...
I'll see if I can find it.

Thanks darkane. That explains the three exhaust tubes in the lower grill area.
ProDarwin- I'm going to try to get the engine as fresh as I can and in the car early enough to try a few different things with the pump and injectors. Not a lot of dynos in this area, but I think you are right about needing to get it done. I "think" I read that it was 59hp @5000rpm. I haven't been able to find any numbers that I totally believe, yet, but hopefully I can get enough testing once the engine is in to give me an idea what's what. It's a 1985 1.6litre out of a golf 4 door.
Membership application is headed to Utah. I couldn't find an online spot to apply and there is plenty of time( for now). It's already been over a month. Less than 9 left. My boss was out, today, so tomorrow I'll be putting in for the vacation time. Engine work starts this weekend.
According to List of discontinued Volkswagen Group diesel engines - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia the stats for the engine new are;
40 kilowatts (54 PS; 54 bhp) @ 4,580 rpm; 100 newton metres (74 ft·lbf) @ 2,300 rpm. Until I find anything more specific to my car, this will be my guesstimate for now.
