Second fill. 65mpg. Much better than I expected. Quite pleased, actually. Still no belly pan. I guess it's true that these diesels are mileage machines.

Got front struts in today. While I was at it, I chopped 1 turn out of the coils. Car now looks level, maybe slight forward tilt. It's pouring rain right now, but I'll get a pic as soon as I can.

Took 2 pics, made one, overlaid template. I have a couple issues, but they should be easily sorted with a little elbow grease.

Getting closer to "as-far-as-I-can" before the big trip.

Does anyone know if TA's have Wifi, or if the Midwest has TA's? I'm going to try to post every day or night with progress/pics.

from my experiences, there are TA's all the way to Oklahoma, there tend to be a lot of Flying J's too and I prefer them as they are cleaner and newer. Most have some sort of WiFi. Most Golden Arches (Mc Donald's) have WiFi as well.

Looking good.
The elbow grease likely won't have very much effect on drag.
Save the esthetics for when you have time left

Ha ha, they're gas stations along the major interstate highways here in the U.S.
Also known as "truck stops" because they sell diesel and cater to long-haul truck drivers. Some of them are quite clean and nice with shower facilities, restaurants and gift shops.

The long name for them is TravelAmerica. Try are one brand of truck stops. Most of them have large parking areas for trucks to stop overnight at.

20 days left. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Euromodder- I've left the last two weeks to seal the cracks and smooth out the tail, as I don't want to be driving that distance on untried mods. It will be mostly working out bugs and a final service( oil, oil filter, air filter, and fuel filter) for the mechanical end. Plenty of time.

Progress- Refitted exhaust( exhaust cement is awesome!) and now have no leaks. Tightened up shifting linkage, kinda tight, but I'm a big boy and the only one driving the car. It should loosen up a bit over time. Mostly electrical left and the belly pan(still waiting a bit for any problems).

Borrowed a laptop and will be adding software and trying cameras out.

I'm pretty good at busting-a$$ when time gets short. This time I finally had a bunch of time to really plan ( and then re-plan, and re-re-plan,...), and had a few thing go my way. Falling into the diesel at the right time, having most of the missing parts for said diesel on hand, having the outer shell pretty much the way I want it( though not quite done), being able to borrow a laptop and cameras, now I find out that my "on call" week will be the week before I leave instead of the week after I get back, so I'll have some extra money( not much, but every little bit helps).

I am SO looking forward to this trip!!!

I never would have even thought of doing this if not for Ecomodder.
