Today, I went to pick up a set of snow tires and rims for my father's F150. We decided to take the car + trailer, since it was ~2 hours away and would cost a fortune in gas with the truck. We brought one of his stock rims/wheels to make sure it would fit, and then brought home a set of 4 plus the sample rim with truck tires in the trailer. Total gas cost ended up being about $7.50 at ~60mpg. Average speed was around 65mph with snow tires on the car, some dirt roads, and rain.
Used the trailer to move a king size bed and box frame a few months ago, and again to move most of our stuff to a new house around a month ago.

I guess it would be charged the same as a regular single-axle trailer.

In the US you might be able to get away with something like that and call it a hitch caddy. But it would be a stretch.

Why do trailers need to be registered anyhow? It's not like the DMV idiots (no offense intended if you're a DMV idiot) are mechanical engineers that can identify what is structurally sound and stable. Seems like a money grab.

The Man, oddly enough, is a fan of having a current license plate on the rear of your vehicle, and isn't a fan of taking the plate off your car to put it on your trailer every time you hook it up.
If you're talking about a safety inspection for trailers, we don't have those here.
