The thought vexes me too, but then I'd take a certain delight watching former comedians continue to crater their careers. It might be just the motivation I need to step up and fill the humor void they have left.

The people who were shouting at the sky a year after the election are having tremors and nausea. It's a public health problem.

We can talk about a two-term president after the midterms. I'm seriously concerned about these stories on Hillary Rodham Clinton running again.

From today's suspicious 0bservers:

http://www.whoi.edu/news-release/fol...he-fresh-water

Quote:
JULY 9, 2018A research team led by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) found the fingerprint of a massive flood of fresh water in the western Arctic, thought to be the cause of an ancient cold snap that began around 13,000 years ago.

"This abrupt climate change—known as the Younger Dryas—ended more than 1,000 years of warming," explains Lloyd Keigwin, an oceanographer at WHOI and lead author of the paper published online July 9, 2018, in the journal Nature Geocscience.

The cause of the cooling event, which is named after a flower (Dryas octopetala) that flourished in the cold conditions in Europe throughout the time, has remained a mystery and a source of debate for decades.

Many researchers believed the source was a huge influx of freshwater from melting ice sheets and glaciers that gushed into the North Atlantic, disrupting the deep-water circulation system—Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC)— that transports warmer waters and releases heat to the atmosphere. However, geologic evidence tracing its exact path had been lacking.
....
Earlier this year, a paper by researchers at the University College London and WHOI found evidence that the AMOC hasn’t been running at peak strength since the mid-1800s and is currently at its weakest point in the past 1,600 years. Continued weakening could disrupt weather patterns from the U.S. and Europe to the African Sahel.

It saddens me to think of glaciers sweeping down out of the Alps and grinding Chartres Cathedral to dust. But that's happened before.

Maybe they can move it. But they can't move the spring underneath it — it would lose context. At least save the Eiffel tower!

Nah. It was never going to do that.

Our children's children might feel a little bothered by it, though. But it will coincide with a contracting economy due to the lack of good replacements for fossil fuel, so...

"Renewables overtake coal as Germany’s most important power source"
.

.
Should say Electricity source. The words " energy" and "power" are bandied about with regard to Rebuildable Electricity as if this is the total of energy that we are using but electricity is just a small part. There is 5X very expensive work to be done to convert all of society's energy consumption to electric even after getting to 100% rebuildables for current electricity production. Just putting RE electricity instead of fossil fueled generation into the existing wires is actually the easiest part.
.
Germany primary energy share forecast from RE has been downgraded from their goal of 18% to 16.7% by 2020.

.
Such a long way to go before liquid fuel price goes 3X in 20 years. Do not get complacent. Everything must change.
